Why can't flying colonies build an ocean base? Whenever i try i get the message "land types can only build on land and sea types can only build on sea"--yet flying colonies could build on land. It does not make sense!

And another thing, there needs to be a sea plane special ability that lets 'Copters and planes land on ocean squares without crashing/taking damage, I mean, comeon, they had that back in the 50's or before |

There is such a thing. A carrier.Build a ship with a carrier deck and the planes can land. You just need to research the right technology. |

Ok, you're not understanding. I know about carrier decks, but I want a plane or 'Copterto be able to land on any ocean square without crashing, or suffering any other kind of penalty. If they are fusion powered, they should be able to gather more fusion fuel (just hydrogen isn't it) when they land.Picture a plane with big pontoons instead of wheels. We have those now, so it stands to reason that we could have them in the 23rd century (about when I discover air power usually). |

Yeah... fusion reactors use hydrogen as fuel... And oceans have lots of it don't they? Remember H2O? that's water |

I like the seaplane idea, but refueling reactors from seawater isn't going to work. There's not much deuterium in ordinary Terran seawater and I wouldn't expect much in Planet's water either. But how about landing a squadron of seaplanes next to an ordinary, non-carrier ship and just piping the fuel across? |

I believe the "never need to refuel" plane you are talking about is called Gravship.Seriously, you can't make a foil do the same thing a cruiser does, and you shouldn't expect a Copter to do the same things that a GravShip can. |

I don't expect them to remain in the air permenantly (grav ship), I just expect them, and reasonably so, to be able to safely land in an ocean square as a special ability. |
