Thanks FIRAXIS for this SMAC site. It was a great surprise that it came up early. As you can see, the fans of this game have quickly embraced it and claimed it as ours. I like the Postcards, and serial story areas (more please). I am impatiently looking forward to updates in the Designer Notes, and Factions portions of the site. Overall I rate this site a "Way Cool!"

A minor quibble, but wouldn't the ship have been hit by an asteroid rather than a meteor?

I was under the impression that a meteor was an asteroid that had hit the atmosphere...

I suppose that since the asteroid struck the ship, you could make an argument that that's as close to a meteor as you can get when traveling from one starsystem to another, but it still seems like a terminology mixup.

Although off Topic... An Asteroid would become a Meteor upon entering an atmosphere, and a meteorite upon impact.. As far as the ship is concerned you could argue that it has mass and therefore captures an envelope of gas (although small) and thus has an atmosphere making any asteroid a Meteor :)...Semantics... By the way, I Loooove this Place!

to ensure the clarification is complete:
from the JPL web sie glossary:
Meteor - The luminous phenomenon seen when a meteoroid enters the atmosphere, commonly known as a shooting star.
Meteorite - A part of a meteoroid that survives through the Earth's atmosphere.
Meteoroid - A small rock in space.
They have no definition for "asteroid" but they do have one for "asteroid belt" which refers to "asteroids" with the implication that the term asteroid=meteoroid.
Just my two cents.
