is what i like to call my style of play in SMAC. that is, to forcefully pacify you poor misguided neighbours- or to bomb hell out of people until they become peaceful- or to be a UN commander who beleives in the procurement of long range heavy artillery divisions.

but there is another way, the way of Passive Force- or in the words of the great Lee

'de ard o'fyding widou fyding'

'whats is that you say? the art of fighting without fighting!?!'

'yez- de ard o'fyding widou fyding'

can anybody contribute some variouse ways of this "ard o'fyding widou fyding" as it relates to SMAC?

(try to avoid suggestions that amount to wearing nothing but a pair of pink sneakers into a prison shower with the laces undone- as i may attempt some suggestions in my next game)

1: stock up on State-of-the-Art defensive units, especially with ECM, AAA, Trance, and Air Superiority. Make anyone who wants to invade you have to spend forever doing it to get anywhere.

2: build those nice defensive facilities: Perim. Defense, Naval Yard, Aerospace Complex, Tachyon Field

AI players are often scared to attack if you have the biggest military, even if all it's good for is sitting in a base.

Probes.

Done best by Morgan, because he will often have the $$ but not the military.

Don't forget to upgrade their reactors when you get them (and build on speeder or faster chassis)- the workshop doesn't do it. (And thus a big advantage over the AI in probe wars.)
