Author Topic:   CIV2 vs. ALPHA CENTAURI

I used to agree with people who said that alpha centauri was nothing more than civ2 in space.
But today i played civ2 again for the first time in a while since i bought alpha centauri, and i have to say that it seemed a bit ancient...
i also thought it was much easier than alpha centauri and also much easier than i remember it...
i guess it just surprised me how different alpha is from civ2(and how much better it is) after i went back and played civ2 again..instead of comparing it to my MEMORY of civ2.
i still think civ2 is alot of fun to play, but since my revisiting of civ2 i have to change my opinion.. alpha is NOT just civ2 on another planet.
the only reason i decided to post this message is because the differences between the 2 games struck me so hard after i went back to civ2. just the overall feeling of fun seemed much higher with alpha. and i think that my memories of civ2 were better than civ2 really is.
BUT CIV2 IS STILL DAMN FUN!!

Going back to civ2 I always forget to build caravans thinking once I make a peace treaty trade already starts. Now I remember why I hate caravans and freight so much. but they are so important to get ahead.

I have recently also rebegun to play Civ2 and I think there isn't much difference. The most annoying things were no borders and no 3D terrain. The rest the same.

Yeah. Great game, but a bit dated now. I still play now and then and greatly prefer it to the evil CTP.
Last time I played, I kept forgetting about not having a build queue. I built a lot of matched pairs of military units.
