These people are the best SP Alpha Centauri players in the world. How do I know? They have proven it by getting a high score in a SCENARIO CONTEST.

ares 7, krushala, laurens, player2, victork, and aceplayer

The following have also proven themselves to be top players:
alkis, bossman, Hello Kitty, jimmytrick, michaelthegreat, Nell Smith, and tfs99

Do you deserve to be called a great player? Prove it. Enter a SCENARIO CONTEST at http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/Dome/3802/

If you enter a contest - you will be given access to the solutions database - which will vastly improve your game.

I downloaded that builder scenario - Transcend Zakharov or something like that- and it was just a simple save file of a game of Laurens. Do you call that a scenario?? Besides the tactics he used (eg everything was forest) were totally not similar to mine.
Are all the 'scenarios' that stupid?

I began a while ago with a scenario, but I quickly stopped building it cause SMAC is really a bad game for scenario building. If I would continue building it and finished it, can I send it to you?

LOL, good title aceplayer. I'll have to finish the other scenarios soon. I have a big move coming up, but after that I'm free.

Scenarios are good because they are a better status of smacdom than regular high scores. Like the hall of fame at apolyton. I get that just by running up the score. Play one of the builder ones if you like that better. Anyway the save files are better because it's too easy to cheat with a downloaded scn file.

There is only one builder scenario and it's that stupid transcend_zakharov. So I ask again, are the others better? And I'm not interested in cheating, nor am I in a contest or high scores. I just want a nice fun scenario. And Laurens' certainly isn't.

And BTW aceplayer, if you built the scenarios according to your playing tactics, it's easy to be "the best SP AC player in the world.

aceplayer posted 08-29-99 07:58 PM ET     Click Here to See the Profile for aceplayer  Click Here to Email aceplayer
SMAniaC -
yes most of the scenarios are save files -
so ppl who only play scenarios might boycott :-)

Of course I accept scenarios from contestants, if they like contests.

You may not like your starting position in a scenario - but everyone has the same start - and if you outplay the others - you will win.

If you enter a contest - you will get access to the solution database - you might learn a lot.

And if you cant outscore player2 - are you sure you know so much ?

Ah, who cares about playing some stupid scenario, its in Multiplayer that counts. And in that, I am the best, along with Dog of War and player named Unbeaten, (who i have beaten, hehe).

Yes, indeed. Everyone has the same start. Eg in Laurens' Transcend scenario, everything is forest. I have never played that tactic, nor will I ever want to play it. Players who do have played that tactic have a serious advantage. So it's kind of unfair to call people good if they just don't like the tactic of the scenario.
The opposite is also true - of course you and Laurens are 'the best players in the world'. Easy of you made the scenarios yourself.
BTW, my scenario wasn't meant as a contest. It was meant to be a REAL scenario.

I mean it's kind of unfair to call people *bad* if they don't like a tactic.

SMACniac

I know exactly what you mean by stupid. And I even emailed to Laurens regarding potential unhappiness from us with such a long and simple scenario (and ever since we are still keeping in contact, in fact we are both staying at the same place. A tiny dot on the map - know where? )

But from what he told me, the Transcend Builder scenario was meant to be a real pain in the ass, but also a breeze to win outright. This is to give the beginners a training ground or the experts to battle it out for a tight finish. With so many cities, you could transcend very fast by very, very patient micromanagement, and he did remind me that his victory posted is not so much 'patient', but to act as a typical template. I don't know how tough it is to attain that one, but I'm sure he's serious about calling it a template.

The initial decision was to make a real simple game, with 6 or 7 cities or so, don't know exactly. Laurens said it's also possible to transcend with just 1-3 cities, and hence wanted to jack the difficulty of the scenario up so that you can have a whole fortitude of decisions and methods to improve your cities - then he reversed his game to one with a MEG number of cities. Simple structures must be used, such as solar collectors, mines, forests only, to give a basic and raw start. I'm not clear about what the raw part means.

As for why the scenarios posted are in actual fact .sav game files and not scen. files, i think all of us know how easy it is to cheat yourself in a scenario editor. I'm also being taught how to identify where a scenario game has been cheated or not.

You can email other questions to laurens at [email protected]

I think you are threading dangerous grounds by claiming your unbeaten title. I see aceplayer and Laurens around, and even Krushala who's on the apolyton chart is here too. Seriously I don't think you stand much of a chance against them (in single-play, multiplay whatever).

Clue: I once made a claim like yours a couple of weeks ago. Then I get aquainted with my teacher - Laurens. Out of the 5 games we played so far, I lost 4 and salvage one draw. The only consolation is that I have never lost to anyone else (dumb AI included) for that matter.

Trinity - Laurens is very very good. Much better than me. How do I know? I have seen his solutions.

Possibility - unfortunately, with the exception of the scenario contests AC does not have multiplayer that can be completed in a timely manner. IP games take too long, starts are unequal, and are rarely completed. PBEM games take months. The contests are multiplayer - in competition - though you dont play head-to-head.

I have played over 50 Mulitplayer IP games, and won all but the first one. I have since stopped playing games altogher and now that i have heard about the expansion pack i have decided to revisit the forums. So when the expansion pack comes out, I will take on any one of you in a Multiplayer game, and kick your ass of course.

Possibility
PS: I have a very fast T3 connection to reduce lagg in 4-5 player MP games to almost negligible.

Good!

It's a deal then, possibility.

It's entirely possible that you get first-hand taste of Trinity's prowess and you will most possibly find yourself back to the training simulation room again
C'ause I'm always ready to add to my list of trophies won in my multiplayer games.

Hopefully this is the forum that we all get back to when crossfire ships out.

You flattered me well over the head, aceplayer - and I know too well how much better you are over me

Trinity - Hey, thought we supposed to keep this a quiet affair?? But if you don't mind then.....
Anyway, you are just too aggressive, I capitalize on your weak defenses, that's why.
(Now you know...)

SMAniaC - Hey, why the sudden hatred for my works?? Hmm.. maybe they are not good enough but I tried my best. Anyway, you are perfectly right that playing one's own scenario definitely generate 'under-difficulty-play'. That's why most of the games listed were continuation of .sav files - in this way, both the author as well as all others can play.
I do want to try out your games if you are posting any.

Possibility - I wonder you heard about the ACOL site but the latest news are that there are Bingmann challenges pitting two teams each of two players against each other. If you can get your partner over there and I managed to find an Asian partner then maybe we have a game.

Cheers

Nah - it's okay.

BTW, have you received my mail to you?

Bingmann Challenges? You playing?
I have posted the story of our drawn-game over at acol, at least that was one big hell of a time!

Could some of youse IP aces address the issue of defense against air power? In multiplay. And don't tell me you never have to play defense.

hey jimmy

you need air power to fight air power - but you knew that
