I havn't gotten to try ToT yet, but I have to say I didn't like the tone of the review. Has anyone tried this game out? I know it's just Civ2 with a few bells and whistles, but then again that's what it's being advertized as. The main thing that looked interstesting was that multi-level mapping they put in. Is it suffiently well integrated that it feels worthwhile? Other commetns? BTW: on a similar note: anyone who complains about the AI or the cheating in SMAC, try playing Birth of the Federation. it will make you REALY appreciate the coding in SMAC!

That is a harsh review. I agree with some of it. But he complains about having to learn new names for techs and units. Well I had to do the same thing for smac. Yes you will need the poster, but at least they provided a convienent (although large) poster vice flipping around a manual. In fact the poster is all you need to play the new games. I'd give it an 75% on a 100 scale. I can't remember the scale gamespot uses.
If you are bored of civ2 I wouldn't recommend TOT. It really is the same exact game with different (sometimes worse) graphics. Some of the unit sounds are better. Be forwarned, No wonder movies, animated heralds, or throne room. They sacrificed a lot. But the gameplay is exactly the same. So if you're bored with civ2 already you'll be bored after 1 game of TOT. But I still played civ2 occasionally and like playing TOT. The gameplay is just as addictive as ever.
