Everyone who knows Imran Siddiqui must be wondering what has happened to him recently. For newbies, some background info is that Imran was once nominated for forum president. So by now everyone must be wondering either:
1. Newbies: Who's this Imran Siddiqui idiot?
2. Veterans: What the H-E-C-K has happened to Imran Siddiqui?

My colleagues and I at Game Designers University (Infinite Loops in BASIC 101 ) have come up with several theories.

1. Imran Siddiqui has gone insane

2. Chrisk has somehow stolen Imran's password.

3 (preferred). Brian Reynolds has stolen Imran's password. This is part of an elaborate plot to implement M$ FUD v1.1 (Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt) in this bulletin board. For those of you who haven't heard the term, FUD is a technique pioneered by Micro$oft for squashing competition in the most evil way possible. BR will do this by taking over Imran Siddiqui's identity and turning him into a complete idiot. This way, veterans and newbies alike will have their faith in the bulletin boards shaken. They will see one of the most honored members of the bulletin board degrade into an incoherent flamer and realize that this could happen to anybody. The solidarity that is our best weapon will be impossible to create; if Imran goes mad then nobody can be trusted to safely lead a fight.

The reason that the third reason is preferred is that if anybody comes up with a real argument against it, I can say that's only part of Firaxis's FUD.

Unless your post is actually part of Firaxis' FUD.

I don't know why he doesn't post here anymore, but I do know he still plays SMAC and still is sane.

evil_conqueror,why have you never come over to ACOL?

Give it time. We have wooed a number of TIs, soon all will be one with ACOL.

Funny, two major blunders by FurXs were the last two nails in the coffin of OWO.

EC! That was killer!

Come over to ACOL when you want to be in a place where personal attacks and mad ravings aren't quite so common.

And join a SMAC MP Team in the SMAC League! You still play SMAC. Have fun playing as part of a team against others.

Well it is called sarcasm. Only one person found it out after I got flamed to a crisp. In fact read the title of the thread "Imran's Flaming Party". Don't tell me you took that seriously!

Like I said in that thread... I apologized for not getting the sarcasm....but I never flamed you so not everyone fights fire with fire. I try to use some vinegar and water. Variety is the spice of life.

Imran: Bait & Switch. You invite the flames, and then turn around and claim the entire post was sarcasm designed to show people up.

Amusing, but not very nice, and I fail to see exactly where in your comments the sarcasim lies.

EC: That would imply that Firaxis is turning into microsoft. What next, an imbedded copy of SMAC with every new computer?

MS Firaxis: "Looking to the future, it is clear that if our company fails to be competitive on the gaming front we will eventually lose market share and go broke. Therefore, it is IMPERATIVE that we develop an imbedded version of our top selling game in our operating system, so that our customers can have full access to our products."

The problem might be that people like me who've seen Imran's posts a lot in the past realised it was a joke but anyone who didn't would think it was a flame. It was obvious to me he was being sarcastic.

Actually I think that Imran's bait and switch seems to fit nicely with EC's FUD...

MikeH,

Sorry, but I find myself disagreeing with you.

I have only seen Imran on this board spout abuse, flames and vulgar language. Perhaps he's a saint elsewhere(no pun on the movie), but I don't spend a lot of time other than here and Apolyton. Therefore, I can only go by what I see.

As I have seen, Imran's "accomplishments" on this forum are as follows:

1) Accusing anyone who speaks out against SMAC to be a plant by Activision.

2) Starting and perpetuating the "vets vs Newbies" nonsense.

3) Starting and perpetuating the "D club", or whatever that load of garbage was.

4) Running around calling people f ing morons and then trying to pass it off as sarcasm.

Do you really think this qualifies as saintly behavior? Sounds like a little child to me.

When did I ever say Imran was a saint? All I said was I found one particular post funny.

I used to have some great debates with Imran about stuff when the Forums were at alphacentauri.com, I don't really know what he's posting now at Apolyton that was one of the first posts of his I've read for months.

Mike H,

Simply explain to me how you find it humerous and sarcastic to call people every conceivable conjugation of the f word? Look, I'm not trying to start a tiff with you. But I think that you wouldn't have the same opinions if I had done the very same.

I think instead you should demand an apology from IS for his foul language and you should encourage him to clean up his act.

Otherwise, you won't have a leg to stand on the next time a foul mouth lashes out at you and hides behind word games.

I don't get offended by the F word. If you had written the same post I wouldn't be offended either, if you wrote something I thought was meant to be an insult I'd probably ignore it and talk to you reasonably. Actually I can't even remember what he said now but he went totally over the top bigging himself up and putting everyone else down there was a comment about the letter as well, it was a clear parody of so called "Vet's" supposed Firaxis supporting posts. If it wasn't then he is a very sick cookie.

Maybe it's because where I am from offensive swearing banter isn't unusual in fact it's common, I can hold my own in that department and I can usually tell when it is meant and when it is in jest. Imran is too close to the bone here and I think I said so somewhere. However the fact that you didn't perceive that he meant it as a joke doesn't mean he didn't.

I have to admit that you are correct though the use of profanity is supposed to be banned on this forum and he did use a lot of it and it did offend a lot of people so he probably should apologise. I'll go back and look at his post and see if I can explain what I mean.

Actually having read it again I realise that I only saw that he was taking the piss by his third post so I retract my defence.

Mike H,

You are a big man to post as you did. Thank you.

I take issue with these matters simply because I have found that you must draw the line somewhere. Otherwise, it's just open season and the escalation begins. Then it usually goes personal insults, cracks about one's mother and derogatory slurs about questionable genetics. all of which are useless and unnecessary. BTW, as I have previously stated I fell prey to all of this back in March and a few wise words from Analyst reminded me that if I consider myself to be a decent person, well then I should act like one. If I can clean up my act, then so can IS.

In addition, I am actually against banning people unless they get to that very far off point where they are purely slanderous and mean. I feel that public accountability by peers within this group is a much better mechanism and ultimately respects everyone's rights.

Finally, given your words and diction, are you English? The reason I ask this is that I have known a number of English people who express the same disposition towards the f word. OTOH, calling someone an f ing moron here in the US will usually require the offender to back up those words or take a beating. That is unless they are hiding behind their monitor and keyboard.

Uncleroggy...Mike is English in answer to your question. Although I dont know if that explains his tolerance for cursing or not. To me , using the f word and other types of prolific cursing are reserved for my close, dear friends as I know they wont be offended by it. I try to have a more respectful attitude towards others in a public forum which includes this here internet forum stuff. That is just the way I am. But now that I feel like Mike is a good enough friend and I know he wont be offended even if he were'nt ,I just want to say...."Hey mike ,you F.cking dumbass lame pr.ck, you suck....but I love ya"

English, and, to a slightly lesser or greater extent (depending on the decade) Australasia males all tend to use the f word liberally in casual conversation. Whole conversations regularly go on with barely a sentence missing the phrase - and the average is usually more than once per sentence.

Still, it doesn't pay to call someone a f**kin' moron, unless they've really earned the hassle for something. But feel free to discuss the f**kin' weather, the f**kin' local council, or the f**kin' english referee in the Trinations. F**k it.

That aside, we can be very charming when we choose to, and usually catch on very quickly when mixed company is present.

As Oldwarrior says I am English.

Well this is an interesting debate. There is a big difference between the type of language you can use with your friends and what you can use with strangers. Normally it's all a bit cleverer than you effing moron. Actually I haven't heard the term moron used for a long time. The F word isn't normally directed at someone. Mind you all swearing is a way of not thinking of a decent word to use anyway.

Shining: not swearing in mixed company I know girls who swear more prolifically than me. I don't swear that much unless I'm drunk.

As for Oldwarrior, well when they get that old I think we can make some allowances.

Thanks Mike... I appreciate you letting my old dumbass slide like that. You know what happens to the mind when you get older. Thanks for understanding. . As far as using F in conversation, it is quite common to use it as an adjective or a verb or noun or any other type of word in the english language .It is the most versatile word in the world. But when used in certain ways at people it is usually meant in a derogatory manner if you dont know them and if you do know them it is usually reserved to be used in a term of endearment or jokingly mocking your friend. It all depends on the company. I have a wav. file with a long commentary on the F word done in a comic way with background music that was played when Alistair Cooke was speaking on his show. It is hilarious and one of the funniest bits I have gotten off the net. If anyone would like it I can send it to them. Just email me and let me know or reply here and I will send it to you.

MikeH: I know them too. But they hardly count, mostly.

In fact it occasionally rates as a good pick up in some situations. After you apologise for you lanuage and somewhat embarrass them, they tend to be extra keen to be seen to be as, er... 'hardgirls'.

These aren't hardgirls, just funny clever girls who happen to swear a lot.

Oh.

I honestly don't think I've met many of that type. Sounds quite attractive.
