I was playing last night and had built 3 cities on Morgans island. There was no vendetta and everything was going smooth. Then Morgan asks me for data, and I refuse on the grounds that he refused to trade for it. Anyway I tell him to get off my land, and he declares Vendetta on me. He uses probe teams to steal my 5-4 rovers and then takes one of my cities with them. The next turn he calls me up and offers my base back to me in return for an end to a vendetta that he didn't want in the first place.
This ever happen to anyone? Any ideas why it happened?

mmm. strange one! In my years as a player I think ive come across a new glitch in the AI! Dont think ive seen this one before!

Unless you had alot of money making you powerful compared to him! That is what the AI goes on, the bar charts!

I've experienced this one more than once. I have a theory about why it occurs.

I think that there must be a little glitch in the programming that makes the AI think, during the diplomacy session that follows the base capture, that this is still *your* base and all of those offensive units stuffed in it are *your* units.

It is abundantly clear that, prior to negotiation, the AI gets a sneak peak at your faction power, including the power and position of your military (gives special weight to the threat posed by a mass of offensive units in geographic proximity to it's own bases). I think that when the AI captures one of your bases, then *immediately* requests a conference, something goes wrong when it peeks and it credits that base and the units in it to you, rather than itself. The result is the peculiar "I just won a major battle and now I surrender" result. [Yes, I've actually had the AI *surrender* to me in this sequence.]
