My apologies if I am mistaken about the creator of this mod. I am posting in response to something I read in a previous (now absent) thread entitled "Venting my woes with SMAC" or something similar.

My question to the creator would be... where can I get a copy of this mod? I'm a little curious to see what changes you made.

Thanks for your time

SW....it was Shining1 who made the mod. If you look through the threads here you might find a copy of the changes he has made. You might have to go back more than five days. I dint look to see if it fell off the bottom of the chart. Also , I believe he is looking for a way to post his mods in a zip file on a site. Hasnt done it yet but we shall see. If worse comes to worse you can always email him as I am sure he would oblige with either the mod or info on it .

SW...I brought the thread you might want to look at up to the top. It is called snac1.2 Enjoy.Kudos to Shining1 for the time and effort put forth into this endeavor.

I can send anyone a few basic files that will get the mod up and running (alpha.txt, blurbs, techlongs, techshorts), but I can't afford to be sending copies of the full 1.0 meg zip file to everyone via email.

Right now, I'm still looking for a host site - this may take a little time due to my study commitments and so forth.

And I'll reactivate the thread with the README printout in it.

Or at least I would have if Old Warrior hadn't beaten me too it by 30 seconds.

Thanks, OW.

No problem, my friend. I figured the best would be for him to see it as is and print out if he likes it and put it to use. Anyway your welcome and I am sure many people here thank you or at least they should.

Quite right. Thank you to OldWarrior for the help finding the thread (knew it was around here somewhere) and thanks to Shining1 for contributing the ideas

Shining1: Am I correct in assuming that the bulk of the changes you have made are revisions to the text files for factions and general parameters? If there is more, how much would you be willing to send via e-mail?

Going to check out the other thread now, apologies if you have answered one of my above questions there

There are twenty eight (!) new files in total. If I recall correctly, this is the list:

Txt files
Alpha
Blurbs
Help
Labels
Techlongs
Techshorts
Believers
Gaian
Hive
Morgan
Peace
Spartan
Uni

Tech symbols
Tech078
Tech079
Tech080
Tech081
Tech082

Voice files
The above techs +
Tech50
Fac18

Map files
Rich Map of Planet (includes the Borehole cluster, planet peak, deepsea vents and, possibly the Manifold Nexus, if I get around to it).

I can probably send you the txt files and the tech icons, since this would be around 200Kb, and the zip takes a fair bit off the txt files. The voice files and the map file are the real bulk of SNAC2.zip - but they add a great deal to the worth of the mod, in my opinion.

Email me and I can reply with the el-cheapo version, + instructions.

Sweet JC!

Shining1: Yup, you had a real bone to pick with the current power balance in SMAC. I'll gladly try your mod if it will make the game a little more challenging though. Seeing the work you put into this mod makes me think I should wait to get the whole product but I'll cave-in and grab the pre-release anyhow

Just make sure to drop a post when the whole thing becomes available.

OldWarrior: Thanks again for the nudge in the right direction

SlipperyWombat: Dong Zhou? What story is that character from? Sounds like what happened to the founder of modern Burma, Suu Chi's father: he was assassinated by gun-toting members of his own cabinet, who then formed the current junta.

Shiny,

Did you ask MarkG at Apolyton ([email protected]) ? They have a files section on their site, and I'm certain he would gladly put your mod up there.

Did you consider having 2 versions, one with the sounds/graphics/whatever, and a "bare bones" one with just the .TXTs ?

Zoetrope: Ha ha. No. Dong Zhou was a character in the classic tale, Romance of the Three Kingdoms. It's a story based (roughly) on historical events in 2nd century China. Several interesting strategy games have been made off of ROTK.

Dong Zhou was a despicible tyrant who was eventially assassinated by one of his own generals.

Regarding the availability question...

Have you considered GeoCities/Tripod/one of the other "free web space" sites?

Heck, I could use one of the empty slots on my parents' AOL account and publish it there.

I just wanna see the thing.
