Hello. I'm starting this thread about high scores since I haven't really found a useful one yet-

1) Im currently looking to get a high score on the apolyton webpage. I have a few questions. Is your score for victory included in the final score? And if so why aren't some of scores on there include the points from victory?

2)Though I don't need much help on attaining a high score I thought that it would be useful to others trying to get their best.

3)And for those who don't have any useful information in their entire body they can just brag about their high scores.

hope this thread gets somewhere

Yeah , but why post a random score for a random scenario , with a random start? Its meaningless.

That's why I started the Scenario Contests - everyone plays the same scenario. Plus if you send me an entry (it doesnt have to be a new high score) you will get access to the solutions of others. Examining those solutions is the ONLY way to improve your game.

For more information - read topics that I posted and that start with "SCENARIO CONTEST"

Enter the Scenario Contests at:

Alright I have a high score question: How many transcendent thoughts are there? I'm trying to build up my score and I'm just wondering how many of those things there are. In civ2 the maximum was like 250. Is it the same in SMAC?

The most I ever got was 76 transcend techs. So I know you can go as high as that.

O.K. Jaypegg,
1) Yes I sent them a save just before my victory, but also included the score and percentage after I achieved it. They can verify it by completing the last turn. The type of victory is listed as well.

2) High scores really don't show much skill. Just patience to run up the score. Although I know I couldn't match those transcend scores in the # years they did.

3) I think my highest was 9110 on Thinker. I just don't have any patience to go further.

You got to start out with Lal_2286 on Aceplayer's scenarios. That one's not too hard. One good thing is you have equal grounds to achieve a high score. Unlike Apolyton. Aceplayer gets the award for most plugs for his website.

Krush-

Thanxs, The first scenario I did d/l was the lal one. I am actually thinking of sending in my score one of these days. And you're right about patience late game (20 min a turn avg.), but I was talking about how to deal with other factions (their cities or their trade, which is better) and what terra combos work best.

Cornhog,

Right now I'm at the 85th tran though and I'm still going. I'll tell you how high I get.

I used to think population was better. I took over every base on the planet except for one in my high score games. But it takes a while with cloning vats and drop colony pods to run up the score. Sometimes I can get 10+ trade from one city. If that city is less than population 10 then I guess trade is better. I'm leaving a few cities for each surrendered factions in my current game for better trade.

Jaypegg - Ares 7 has a scenario at my site that REQUIRES 50 transcends to win.

I bet there is no transcend limit - except you will hit the mandatory retirement age - 2500 or 2600 (depending on skill)

let me know whether the game lets you continue after that.. with the lemme play/go away option...

aceplayer-

Well, I played a turn last night and I got up to tran thought 88 and I still have 100 years left to play (2400 now, ends 2500). Right now I'm getting 3-4 techs a turn so I should be up to 400 before retairiment. I don't know if I have the willpower to contunie, but I'll try to get as far as I can.

Krushala-

I was looking through some of the high score's saves and I came across yours. I found it remarkable how you were able to get every city up to around 40 with almost no terraforming.

Good ole sky hydroponics labs. There seems to be a limit to those. Some of my huge bases wouldn't get anymore nutrients even though I was still building sky hydroponic labs. The rules mentioned something about the labs not exceeding the size of the base. I'm not exactly sure what that means.

I have only had SMAC for 3 weeks now, but before that I played to demo. The first level I done I got 84% complete, by transcendance, with blind research, or CItizen. I have no Idea if this is good, but I am going to post it any way
aceplayer posted 07-24-99 11:59 AM ET     Click Here to See the Profile for aceplayer  Click Here to Email aceplayer
Krushala - It means the amount of nutrients
a base receives cannot exceed the population at that base. ie - a 5 citizen base can only recieve 5 nutrients from the labs.

The same limit applies to orbital power transmitters.

Krushala posted 07-24-99 12:23 PM ET     Click Here to See the Profile for Krushala  Click Here to Email Krushala
So there is a limit then? If you had a size 100 base and 100 ponic labs. And had maybe 20 nutrients from the land that would be 120 nutrients which only could support a size 60 base.
aceplayer posted 07-24-99 01:32 PM ET     Click Here to See the Profile for aceplayer  Click Here to Email aceplayer
right - and if you built another lab - the 101 labs would still only give you 100 nutrients because that is the population size...

One problem with your logic guys, the highest pop you can have in a city is 99. Believe me I've tried.

That's what we were discussing is that there is a limit to your base population based on how many nutrients you can get from the land. The sky hydroponic labs only let you get so high. And yes with the scenario editor 99 is the highest. I think 76 is my highest.

you can always convoy in more nutrients...
