Does anyone have a clue as to why SmacX has been delayed? I heard someone say over at ACOL that Sid is unhappy with the buggy code. Can anyone confirm this?

How could Sid - or anybody else for that matter - be unhappy about buggy code ?
SMAC is a perfect piece of software, and has not had any errors in it since day one. That's why Firaxis only released Enhancements, when other game software companies send out patches.

I don't know anything about SMACX, except it's an extension of SMAC, but on firaxis.com I find nothing about it.

I find that some sarcasm doesn't work around here. I didn't think they had an initial release date set. I originally heard this fall. I don't think they pushed it back. Although I thought I heard a long time ago that they were hoping for the summer.

Aredhran: SMAC is already enough of a patchwork as it is. Just adding more seems futile. This franksteins monster, built from the corpse of CivII, honestly needs enhancements instead of patching.

May I correct you gentlemen.
SMACX will be released in October. Exact date and title to be confirmeed.
It is our intention here at FIRAXIS that the product will be completely bug free (as far as is possible) and offer significant ehancements over SMAC.

Shiny, I couldn't agree more with the "patchwork" statement. But what we need is not new enhancements, it's a complete rewrite of the opponent engine, the multiplayer code, the combat system.
Heck. Firaxis, please rewrite the whole thing !

Okay, I confess: I just plain made up the story about the delay.
Since I moved to ACOL CITY I had heard so many folk say that alpha.owo had been infested with a zillion bonehead newbies.
So I thought I would pull a jimmytrick. Now, of course, I feel terribly guilty about this business, although I doubt it will stop me from doing something similar, again, soon.

In general, I read a lot on the forums and surf a few game news sites now and then.
