Just a question:Does anyone know a way to disable the construction of mind worms without eliminating the associated tech. Using 'disable' for the unit type in alpha.txt has zero effect, the same applying for the scenario settings. That is, regardless of whether you set a scenario to exclude mind worms, or disable the worms in alpha.txt, it's still possible to build them once you get the appropriate technology. Thanks, Max

Maxpublic: I have found the exact opposite to be true. If, in the rules.txt under #UNITS, you change the prerequisite tech for alien lifeforms to "disable," then no one will be able to build alien lifeforms.Note however, that once you change rules.txt you must reload the program for the changes to take place. Also this will not work with saved games. You must start a completely new game or once lifeforms are a build option they will remain a build option. HTH. GB |

I realize that you have to fire up the game anew every time you change alpha.txt (calming ruffled dander), but I was hoping that the changes could be applied to saved games. After all, everything *else* in alpha.txt is implemented immediately after the change except for those items governed by UNITS.Sigh...I built this damned fine scenario, realized I forgot to disable mind worms, and was looking for a way to do that mid-stream. Looks like I'm SOL. Max

LOL. Sorry Maxpublic. I didn't mean to ruffle your dander (actually had to look that up to see if it meant what I thought it meant...) I only pointed those two items out because both caused me no small amount of frustration.I did the same as you: invested a bit of time in what I thought would be a cool advanced-start scenario without mindworms (and other changes) only to find out that it had been wasted because the mindworms were still there. Just trying to help. (I've noticed, when reading my own posts, that I sometimes come off sounding like a jerk. I think it's because I hate composing messages in the little cramped boxes they give you on these web-based forums so much that I tend to be terse when I can actually bring myself to make a reply. <-- Eh. What an ugly sentence. Too tired right now to fix it though...) GB |
