Is it just me or can Gravship's not use magtubes/drop pods? They seem cool but when you've got Hovertank's w/ drop pods <and orbital insertion> who can 'drop on by' anywhere in the world a unit that can only move 12 squares no matter what seems.. useless?

Another thing.. I'm just curious.. but has anyone when they're in a multiplayer game ever had it 'degenerate' into a global Planet Buster war? I haven't seen this yet but I could see it happening.

Only a single attack per round severly limits the gravship but I wouldn't call them completely useless. Just depends on your tactics.

I have yet to have a game long enough for them to be significant but they can be nasty if they're in the immediate area.

I like to use hovertanks for quick strike ground assaults but gravships I imagine would be most ideal repelling invaders if you're on a large map because with the right configuration can attack ground, air AND sea units.

This combined with thier speed is a great tactical advantage on your home terf. Also good for attacking nearby neighbors and laying seige to cities. Although other units can perform this function just as well I suppose.

GRAVSHIPS ROCK!! Completely awesome for several reasons.

Range - they never have to land. Fantastic for patrolling large sea areas, no IofD dangers either.

ZOC - right now in a new game I have 4 hive units locked in a corner of my homeland because they cannot move, my ZOC has locked them. They can't attack it either, they need an air superiority unit! FREAKING BRILLIANT! He is out of range for his interceptors. I love this!

Air Superiority - can be built to be rangeless interceptors

Air units - cannot be attacked from units without air superiority (except in v3.0 this has changed and units in base can attack them... WIERD)

No drop penalty - your hovertanks with air drop suffer a -50% attack penalty for attacking on the same turn as drop. No such problem for gravships.

3 words: Gravship Super Former - perfect for building airbases to remote areas, can get anywhere in a real hurry, can't be attacked by worms. Exert ZOC over worms while you bring in your worm killers. Cha-ching! $$$$

3 more words: Gravship Colony Pod - new base anywhere in the world (super exepensive in v3.0 though - OUCH BRIAN)

I race to gravships. The are better than any airplane - do the same things, but have no range problems, no landing, complete freedom to roam the globe.

LOVE 'EM!! Favoritist chassis in the game.

Gravship Colony Pods? Boring...

Try Colony pods w/ drop pods.. global bases here we come.. though I like your idea about patrolling the sea.. thats something I didn't think of.. though I'd probably build a plane to do that.. I still say.. they aren't very good compared to a unit w/ drop pods <just don't attack the first turn> In a huge map.. it can take your gravships a long time to get where they are needed.. my drop pods are ready in two turns.. first turn to land.. 2nd they can attack <or you can let them repair themselves>
