Is there any way to get a faction that won't talk to you to talk to you? Or, at least increase the chances that it will? I want to give LAL control of a base, but he won't answer the commlink.

It seems that I should be able to get a faction's attention in order to give a gift at any time! After all, despite the bombing of Belgrade, I bet if Clinton called Milosivich up and said "Hey, how would you like to take Guam off our hands?", he wouldn't say no?

Background: I (as Deidre) had a treaty with LAL and the Hive and was at war with the other 2 factions (left) in the game - UofP and the Spartans. The Hive, UofP, the Spartans and I were all of about equal size and stregnth-- way out in front of LAL. LAL had declared war on me early in the game and I had caputured one of his bases ("Fomer UN Base") on a continent otherwise totally occupied by LAL and UofP. Most of the rest of LAL's bases were captured by the Spartans or UofP at one time. They are all at peace now.

Anyway, as my war with the Spartans intensified and UofP started to amass forces around Former UN Base and kept probing it to death-- I decided I should hand the base back over to LAL to deal with it.. BUT LAL WON't ANSWER MY COMMLINK! 4 Turns in a row I tried and he never would listen to me... all I was going to do was cede control of Former UN Base to him... Eventually, I made a mistake and moved a former next to his base nearest to Former UN Base -- (I was actually trying to terraform to help him-- stupid me) and he declared war and took out my former. I'm still trying to reach him on the commlink, but of course now he is still ignoring me due to the vendetta. By now the Hive has declared war on me too and I'm in real trouble. I've got my own 4 way war now -- Dierdre against the world -- and not sure where things will end up... can't wait to get home tonight and see!

Meanwhile, any ideas on my questions above-- AND how do you make peace when the rest of the world wants war?

I guess there is a simple variable named 'patience' the more you knock the less they heed, so you'd have better leave him alone for two or three turns, instead of insist.
Other things that can help are adopting some SE option that they specifically like, hand them some units (don't know if you can do it if you're enemies, if you can then you don't need to contact him), or in the worst case, let him directly conquer one of your bases, he may be in a better mood after).

Force peace down their throats.

Try a massive assault against their HQ... Usually they soften up a little after that .

When you capture an enemy base, the next time one of your units is in contact with one of theirs, they will attempt to contact you. From there, if you have SE choices that your enemy likes, you can usually get at least a truce (unless they're really p!ssed)

Even with an all-out war, usually the enemies don't attack all at once (at least it never happened to me on a large scale - small skirmishes yes, but no full-fledged assault), so if you can keep a good defense for your borders, you can concentrate building an offensive army and kicking just one b*tt at a time

Thanks for the replies...

MoSe: The problem is that you can't give units to someone unless they are a Pact brother.. even in a treaty,if you try to move a unit into another faction's base or unit, the computer thinks you want to attack (reasonable assumption absent some sort of other indication).

Aredhran: conquering their HQ is probably not an option right now, but I probably will take out a Spartan city any year now and maybe that will make her sue for peace... however, she has done that before only to stab me in the back. UofP is too far away for me to launch an attach right now and I actually think they will quiet down once they take Former UN Base from me.. which is fine if I can't give it to the UN. I'll get it back when I'm ready...

My main threat right now is being sandwiched between the Spartans and the Hive... The Hive just declared war so I'm not sure how aggresive they will be.. The Spartans have been as aggressive as hell. I've already had to pick off about 12 impact squads coming at one of my bases. But, I think the tide has turned and I am now advancing into their territory (actually we are both fighting over territory we jointly wrenched from Miriam before Santiago banished her to a Punishment Sphere). Luckily, the Hive is across a short channel from me and my navy is far superior.... Should be interesting... Got to get some Needlejets built and in the air...

mauibound,

You can hand over control to treaty people too. Just move the unit into thier territory and right click on it, action, turn unit over.
I dont know if you can do it with truce or vendetta, something about giveing enemys free things that doesnt apeal to me.

mauibound,

Rule #1: Always be wary of Yang. He's a nasty piece of @#, and unless his civilization - uh. I mean, faction is really small, you can bet anything that his military is fairly strong and that he'll be coming down hard on you. However, if he has no direct earth-bound route to your territory, it's going to be easier for you to hold him off.

Rule #2: as others have pointed out before, attacking is the best defense. A good "offensive defense strategy" I use is to have a small fleet of (cheap) deep-radar ships act as advanced detectors, and build a few choppers or bombers to destroy any ships he might send at you before they reach your shores. (just watch for those unlimited-range missiles, though... they get bloody annoying... see other threads)
