Yes folks, I've finally accomplished what the whole Firaxis team couldn't! There is apparently a hidden code to disable the Hive's tendency to launch endless barrages of conventional range missiles. These steps must be followed EXACTLY to guarantee an end to this IMHO most annoying, and until now, unsolvable problem.

1) DO NOT start SMAC on autorun. It must be started from the Windows START menu.

2) At the first set of heads up displays, left click on the top one.

3) On the second set of displays, also left click the top display.

4) Next, count down 5 displays and left click on this one.

5) Now again, you must left click on the fifth display from the top.

6) Be sure to left click the middle display here.

7) Now, click on slot 2, and click OK.

No more Hive missile barrages, guaranteed!

Next, I'll be working on the Believer Laser Squad overproduction bug and the Spartan Impact Rover bug. I'll post when I figure those out!

Cute.

Now we just need the nude codes for Dierdre and we'll be all set.

LOL.. if you really want a nude you can always replace the image in the .PCX file. Tis a simple matter with photoshop I'm surprised nobody's done it yet. heheh

OK, stupid question I'm sure, but what does "heads up display" mean? Excuse my ignorance!!

Hi Nell!

A heads up display is basically a projection/reflection of critical instrumentation onto an otherwise transparent surface that allows a pilot/driver to monitor vital functions while keeping their eyes peeled for bogeys/knuckleheads. Often they take the form of a swingout glass lense that the info is viewed on. The pilot then does not need to look down at his/her instrument panel and can keep their heads up where the action is.

P.S. What time is it in London when it's midnight here, Pacific west coast, USoA? I guess I could grab an atlas but I'm feeling lazy!

Ahhh thanks JAMiAM!!
<wonders if there's much about SMAC - or about being a pilot! - that JAMiAM doesn't know... hehe>
And London is 8 hours ahead of Pacific USA time, so midnight our time is 4pm your time.

Aw shucks Nell, cut it out. You're gonna have my ego soooooo inflated, I'll be completely unbearable.

Actually, I know next to nothing about being a pilot (I'm too afraid of heights) and have never been higher off the ground than I could jump or climb.

I won't claim to be an expert on SMAC either, only someone deeply obsessed!

Given our temporal displacement, I would guess that you do most of your posting from your place of employment. I suppose that is one way to avoid the high cost of English telephones.

Well, it's back to SMAC. Gotta accelerate the Ascent, Transcend and go to bed!! G'night all, and pleasant (planet) dreams.

about heads-up and unbearable ego, IIRC I saw a poster saying 'a HUD makes it all bearable'. oh, no, that must have been a hug.

You really got me hoping there...

Unfortunately, your trick doesn't prevent those blasted believers (or anyone else for that matter) to use their missiles...

... (silence, frustration) ...

JAMiAM... I'm just speaking as I see
And if you've never been on a plane, you owe it to yourself (especially with all those cheap domestic flights you get in the States - Grrrrrr!)... nothing beats the adrenaline rush at take-off!
And yep, working in computer support gives me the brilliant advantage of being able to sit online all day, writing emails to my friends and posting loadsa stuff on newsgroups, while telling my pathetically trusting employer that I'm d/loading a vital MSoft update, without which all the company's servers will instantly self-destruct. Ho ho ho
Tis only a shame I can't get away with actually playing SMAC at work - drat those open-plan offices, drat them I say!
