Seems to me that everyone likes one or the other. Anybody out there actually like to play both, besides me?If so, how will you decide on a given day which one to play? Since I just got CTP, that will take up the next few weeks. After that I will probably play one or two SMACs and keep rotating. The real test of which is better will eventually be settled based on which game I want to return to several months from now.

Here, here! I think I'll be able to make my FINAL judgement in a year, depending on what I'll be playing at that time... Markos, Apolyton CS

I definitely like both, tho CTP will take up my time for the next few weeks as well. So far it seems to be better than SMAC but not so good in others esp. Diplomacy, and Wonder movies.I have a feeling I'm gonna prefer CTP in the long run, you just cant beat that 'ruling the Earth and smacking down the Welsh' feeling Btw, did anyone else feel very disturbed after seeing the movie for the Dream Twister?? |

The Dream Twister is kind of disturbing but its not something that modern culture hasn't exposed us to before. |

Well, I really like BOTH and will play BOTH of them probably equally. I am just glad we finally have some really great games out for a change. I have only one problem though, HOW CAN I FIND THE TIME TO PLAY THEM AS MUCH AS I WANT!?!?!? I am just about maxed out with calling in at my work and taking holidays. One way or another I WILL find the time!!! |

I like them both. As to which I play it depends. First my mood, sometimes I feel lke playing one sometimes the other, Second time, I can complete a game of SMAC in a day while CTP takes longer. |

I play both, I think they're both pretty cool. I don't really see how you even could like one and not the other. I mean, they're pretty similar types of games, so If you like one, you like the other I guess. At least thats the way it is with me...it's like I got Command and Conquer 1 a few years ago, and since then, I've loved every Realtime strat. game I've ever played....is it different with turn based games? |

I will play both when I get Civ:CTP, I don't see how anyone who liked Civ2 can not like Civ:CTP. All Activision have done is to update Civ2 and put on extra features. |

I was going to wait for the CTP demo. . .but when Best Buy put out CTP on sale for $29.99 I couldn't resist. So I went out and bought it. Only after three days of playing CTP, I have to say that SMAC is so much more interesting and fun with those factions and crazy faction leaders. BUT. . ."man-o-man". . . I dig those wonderful graphics on CTP. The more I played CTP the more I realized how different SMAC and CTP are. I'll probably shelve CTP for now and keep playing SMAC. But its nice to have CTP around for somehing DIFFERENT to play. I just hope "Star Trek: Birth of the Federation" isn't a "must-get-game". Otherwise I'll be in a world of hurt trying to find the time to play all three. |

Disregard my previous statement as I meant it for SMAC and Civ 2 MGE. |

I also couldn't resist Best Buy's $29.99 sale, so I got CTP. But it's not Civ... it's not even like Civ (I, II, SMAC)... controls are the most irritating thing and on top of that it does not support left-handed mouse (yes, I am ). So for now I put it aside till I'll find some time to read at least part of the manual, and continued to play SMAC. And boy, do I like PB Hive, or what? |

SerOlmy: Don't deceive yourself. The interface is _very_ different from CivII ... you may like it, you may not, but Civ it is NOT. It is Activision's attempt at an historical empire-building game. There are currently a few basty issues/bugs to be sorted so I'd recommend waiting until the first patch and an all-clear from here (or better at Apolyton).Cheers James |
