Hi all..I keep seeing threads of people that say they are getting 1000 energy/turn, or have massive nutrient/mineral intake per turn. I'm just wondering how. I seem to build all the upgraded to get the bonus nutrients/minerals/energy, but I don't come close to getting those kinds of numbers coming in. Also, I think the biggest city I've gotten is 11. I continualy read of people with 20-30 pops in several of their town. So, what I would like, is to get a copy of one of those saved games, so I can see how you got things set up. Not that I have a problem winning the game, but I am just so curious to know how to rake in 1000 energy per turn(I think my high was around 300). Anyway, if you wouldn't mind sending me a save game, I sure would appreciate it. Reply here or just use my email address that this post will give ya. Thanks in advance. Silt

I don't have a saved game handy, but here's some advice. Build boreholes, echelon mirrors and condensers to boost your mineral, energy and nutrient supplies on land, and build tidal harnesses, kelp farms, etc, at sea.Bases keep growing provided they have enough food. So keep those nutrient supplies high. Also, a base grows faster during Golden Age, which occurs when Talents > half Citizens, and Drones = 0. To attain Golden Age, either: (a) set global Psych high (and have appropriate Social Engineering and/or happiness buildings in each base you want to grow fast), or (b) make lots of Talents using Doctors or Empaths or Transcends (and make sure the base still has plenty of food), or (c) build the wonder that gives a permanent Golden Age in every city. You also need to build the Habitation Complex, then the Habitation Dome, in each city, to remove the ceilings on base size. Oh, and build (and conquer) lots of bases. |

The easiest way to boost the population of ALL your bases of course is to build the Cloning Vats secret project. This causes your cities to grow at a rate of +1 pop per turn, as long as there are enough nutrients to feed 'em & space in the base. However, without the Telepathic Matrix secret project, the Cloning Vats are practically guaranteed to drive most of your empire into drone riots because of the sudden pop boom. My advice - build the Matrix first or, upon completion of the Cloning vats, reduce the nutrient surplus of your colonies to 0 & crank it back up as soon as you've got the Matrix built or conquered. Add condersors, orbital farms & copious amounts of terraforming, and those 75+ cities come rolling in easily...HTH, CC |

One way to get to PopBoom before you can attain Vats (&Matrix) is to set GROWTH to 6 by choosing Democratics/Planned. AND 1. building Children's Creche or 2. setting specialists in order to get Golden Age . in the bases you want to Boom. Both 1. and 2. give you the +2GROWTH you need to get to +6. Keep in mind that you must have no riots (obvious) and TWO surplus nutrients in order to gain growth leap. That can be difficult if you divert workers for 2. So I prefer go for 1.(Creches) considered that you gain other benefits from them (the efficiency you need to balance Planned and/or to have enough Energy base to assign to Psych). Beware, a usual Civ-ers mistake is thinking that Golden Age works like We Love the President in giving you 1 growth per turn. Actually, it only works indirectly, allowing you to eventually get to GROWTH+6, the only condition to PopBoom. You can have Golden Age w/out Boom & viceversa. Of course when you can get to Cloning Vats, you have PopBoom in ALL bases, regardless of your GROWTH level (provided you assure the 2N surplus in the bases). Remember also that to get past size 14 (16 with Ascetic Virtues IIRC), you need HabDomes, and they come pretty late in the game, with SuperTensile Solids. Saluti SMACademicus MariOne |

Thue: Thanks for the save game file. Wow! Do you actually manage some 70 or so bases in a game? All: Thanks for the tips. Silt |

70?!?! That's extreme, but I figure I could manage to push one of my current games to that level too, if I wanted, I'm gonna try.http://www.germany.net/teilnehmer/101,110819/didit.zip University Base at this game would reach 40 within a matter of turns if I wouldn't build TtA before, but you can delay this one, and this is WITHOUT Sky Hydrophonic Labs ) |

MoSe hit on all the big points to getting those massive energy outputs (population is key). However, its important to note that these kinds of outputs are almost exclusively available to players that adopt a 'builder' playstyle (although its possible to get big energy returns from a VERY successful military campain, but highly unlikely) By a builder playstyle, I mean that you primarily allocate your resources to building up the infrastructure of your cities, rather than build military units to capture other cities. If you've been playing a 'conqueror' style game, you probably have large numbers of small cities with low energy outputs, making those huge returns you're hearing about seemingly unattainable. This isn't to say that a 'builder' playstyle is superior to a 'conqueror,' it simply entails that there are certain advantages to each. If its energy you want, go 'builder.' If you want your enemy's head on a stick, then 'conqueror' style is for you.
