Okay, first thing I did after downloading the 3.0 patch (I completely re-installed SMAC before patching it, BTW) was to take a peek at what this new borehole cluster thingy looks like. As far as I can tell, this landmark isn't on the map of Planet and huge map of Planet. I finally got it on a random map, so my question is this -- do you get to find the Borehole Cluster if you choose to play on the (Huge or Normal) Map of Planet, or will it only show up on custom or random maps? No biggie ... maybe they just forgot to include updated Planet maps with the patch.

I had the same question...I started a new game after downloading the patch and selected Huge Map of Planet. I just sent an orbital farm to get the full map and couldn't find anything that was called or looked like a borehole cluster. Is this a triggered event (you have to do something to discover it)? Or is the cluster only available in random maps? If it is on the Huge MoP (and I'm just missing it somehow ), could someone tell me what other landmarks it is near? Many thanks! |

My assumption is that you'd have to edit the map files and place the Borehole Cluster on them to get them. You do get it on random maps (I've seen it a number of times) but maps created before the 3.0 enhancement won't feature it. |

It seemed like a bad idea to change the Map of Planet since... well, it would be changing the 'official planet'! Plus, the Prima Guide's official Map of Planet poster would be incorrect. Thus, the Borehole Cluster is only available on random maps generated from v3.0.

Here is another related question. Would Borehold Cluster cause the same eco-damage as man made boreholes? If it is so, mindworms would kill you for a city sitting in the middle of three boreholes. |
