What quotes from SMAC do you find are the best?

Funniest quote- Tossup b/t the Network Backbone SP and the Bioenhancement Center (Termination of specimen advised!).

Best sounding- Network Node!

Worst- Dream Twister SP (Mary had a Little Lamb??).

Funniest: "Our products are so good, nobody feels the need to compete with us." Also, "Get offa my land, you peacekeeping sonuva..."

Best: "God does play dice, and the dice are loaded."

Worst: Miriam ranting about finding an angry God waiting past the last theorem when you get Unified Field Theory. Blow off, bitch.

Scariest: The self-aware colony movie isn't really a quote, but it is scary. Morgan's quote when you build the Research Hospital is funny and disturbing at the same time ("another public relations nightmare!").

Out of Context: "Size DOES matter!"

Funniest - 'get offa my land you peacekeeping sonuva...'

Out of context - '...even five hundred would be pretty nice...'

Worst - Most of Yang's

Best - 'God has not be proven to exist, therefore he exists'

Scariest - Self-aware colony, punishment sphere

Best: I agree, the Intellectual Integrity one for Zakharov, and I'm Presbyterian (sigh). But you need the whole quote: "Man's unfailing capacity to believe what he prefers to be true rather than what the evidence shows to be likely and possible has always astounded me. We long for a caring Universe which will save us from our childish mistakes, and in the face of mountains of evidence to the contrary we will pin all our hopes on the slimmest of doubts. God has not been proven not to exist, therefore he must exist."

Best Group: All the philosophical ones from Aristotle, Plato, Nietzche, etc.

Worst: Advanced Subatomic Theory, Zakharov needs to lay off the vodka for that infamous error that Firaxis didn't correct. (behind electrons quarks... nooooooo!)

Worst Group: Most of the "Morgan Meeting" "Annual Report" or "Probe Team secret report" ones are pretty bad. I don't mind that stuff "slipping away from me."

Funniest: "The first living thing to go through the device was a small white
rat. I still have him, in fact. As you can see, the damage was not so great as they say."

Runner up: "...We possess no retroviral capability, we are not researching retroviral engineering, and we shall not allow this Council to violate faction privileges in the name of this ridiculous witch hunt!"

Not really scariest, but rather hopelessly nonchalant: "Man has killed man from the beginning of time, and each new frontier has brought new ways and new places to die. Why should the future be different?"

Quote out of context: "We sit together, the mountain and I, until only the mountain remains." Huh?

Most erratic group: Some of Miriam's quotes are excellent foreboding warnings (Industrial Nanorobotics, Planetary Economics), others are just silly and irrational and plain bizarre.

Nylan: I like Yang's quote for Polymorphic Software, about fashioning a dataprobe from sand. For that matter, his quote about the dice being loaded and Einstein turning in his grave was pretty cool too, as was the genetic code being chemical processes and nothing more. And most of the others I can at least respect as okay.

Best quote: oh man. That's gonna be impossible to decide. I love Santiago's Command Nexus spiel, Zakhorov's Intellectual Integrity quote, and most of Deidre's stuff is pretty good, especially the headquarters stuff.

Okay, probably Sun Tzu's quote from the Hunter Seeker algorithm, if pushed. Brilliant strategy from the original master .

Worst Quote: I'm with snowfire on this one, the Advanced Subatomic Theory quote (and the Superstring theory one, to a lesser degree) totally embarrass Zakhorov in a scientific sense. As bad as Miriam asking who St Paul is...

Funniest Quote: Again, most of Morgan. The Bioenhancement centre too (ROFL), and the Hologram theatre one (Recon rover rick). Sorry, can't choose - they're all brilliant.

Scariest quote: Definitely the recycling tanks one - "It is every citizen's final duty to go into the tanks, and become one with all the people." I used to like the Hive, now I'm not so sure...

Quote out of Context: The Bioenhancement centre, again, and the way the nice little bite of philosophy gets squelched at the end.
But Santiago's Orbital Spaceflight seems to include a nice backhand slap at these forums - specifically all the people who complained about the absence of spaceships in SMAC. "What these fools fail to comprehend is that..."

Most Philosophical quote: Yang has some great ones, but nothing to beat Lal and the Planetary datalinks: "Beware he that would seek to deny you information, for in his heart he dreams himself your master."

I believe it is Virtual World. I'm not sure though. I think the Bioenhancement Center is the funniest with the Network Backbone one!

My absolutely Favourite Funny Quote is the Retroviral engineering "Saddam Hussein" Quote. For the best quote: "eternity lies ahead of us, and beyond. Have you drunk your fill?" was the only one that really stuck in my head... I thought Bioenh. Center was pretty scary...

Borodino-I'm pretty sure it's Longetivity Vaccine. Virtual world is the "What do I care for your suffering" one. Pretty pitiful when you've actually learned the Secret Project movies by heart.

I've always liked two the most (one I cant remember where it is, but it's also a planet voice quote):
Ecological Engineering
You are the children of a dead planet, earthdeirdre, and this death we do not comprehend. We shall take you in, but may we ask this question--will we too catch the planetdeath disease?

It seems to me that most of Diedre's quotes are quite...weird, for a lack of a better term. Even the quotes she gets from others. I wouldn't be surprised if she actually did "run naked in the trees."

Best Quote:

"What goes up ... better darn well stay up!"

Morgan Applied Gravitonics technician's quote

Worst Quote:
Sister Miriam whining about nanotechnology being little humunculoids out to get us.

Funniest Quote: We are not doing Retroviral Engineering, never have, and will not allow the Provost's personal residences to be violated by you jack-booted U.N. thugs! (Or something like that ... the infamous "Saddam Hussein" parody)

Scariest Quote was probably Machiavelli, about the good prince being the one who manipulates the people into needing help from the government. (Doctrine: Loyalty, I think)

Out-of-context: Definitely Theory of Everything. Yeah, space travel's important, but the T of E is about abstract physics, not space travel. Humbug!

Other cool quotes:

"The wicked have told me of things that delight them, and not such things as your laws have to tell." -- Saint Augustine

"... and never forget that with children present parents will fight to the death!" -- Santiago (helluva reason to build daycare centers, huh?)

Yang's speech for The Ascetic Virtues is pretty cool, the quintessential essence of hard-left despotism.

"... now you fill the skies where we watched a million sunsets with flame and contrails ..." was also really cool. (Aerospace Complex)

Nonlinear Math:

I take this as commentary about the game, perhaps addressed at this forum like the Spaceflight quote was.

"There are two kinds of scientific progress: the methodical
experimentation and categorization which gradually extend the
boundaries of knowledge, and the revolutionary leap of genius
which redefines and transcends those boundaries. Acknowledging
our debt to the former, we yearn nonetheless for the latter."

Evolutionary vs. revolutionary, all expressed quite nicely by Zakharov. The fact that the sign bears a suspicious resemblance to the Firaxis logo doesn't hurt the idea either.

2 quotes. the Network Node cadence, and the other was when i tried to trade a city with the hive. Yang called my city a "Pile of pustulant filth" (guess that would be a NO)
