First, as expected, a superb game from Sid Meier, Brian Reynolds, and the Firaxis team!

My one suggestion, is that sun spots can be extremely annoying. If you are far ahead, and about to attempt the "Unite behind me as supreme leader", just to receive the dreaded sun spot message...arrggh! I'd sure love a patch that lets me tweak this in alpha.txt.

Anyhow, otherwise the game is fantastic!

Or how about a project that eliminates them altogether ? In the age of fiber optices, sunspot activity should disrupt communications ...

... should _not_ ... of course.

*grin* My job is managing the international network of a large brokerage, and this week we experienced a large outage in South America due to sunspot activity affecting the satellite links. Life imitating game a bit? I was tempted to try and take out Montevideo with a planet buster, but it didn't seem appropriate.

SL: Fibreoptics? Why? You still have to send signals though the solar atmosphere. Unless you're suggesting they string 30 000km of fibreoptics between planet and satellite...

Shining1, why do you think that optic fibre needs satellites? The 30 000 km of glass thread is in the ground and under the sea.

All we need are photonic switches, and power supplies sans electrons, and we can say bye bye to electromagnetic interference - I think.

Yeah, but why would there be a line of fiber all over the planet, it's not like I built them or anything. A secret project where you could build a global communications network not dependant on satellites or any other technology that sunspots would affect.

You'd think that the empath guild would pretty much make you immune to sunspots, you are using telepathy and all...

But you still can't communicate with other factions if they don't have empaths.

You could have a diplomatic mission to Send an Empathic ambassador to recieve/send signals but I wouldn't really like an 'enemy' psychic in my capital.

How about having sunspots wreck communications for a variable amount of time? Something like 3 to 20 years?

Sounds better to me. 20 years is so long. They always happen when you want to communicate as well. I had one as I was negotiating to get elected governer. Grrrr.
