Whats with the '...has been captured and interrogated' with torture when a faction is defeated? Whats the point of interrogating the leader of a faction that poses no more threat and all its followers are dead or yours? I don't like the idea of Lady Deirdre torturing someone, it kinda, well jars a bit don't you think? How about different scenes for each faction? Torture by brainwashing by Yang, good ole medieval style racks and that by Miriam, execution by Santiago and the 'goodies' ie Dierdre, Lal (supposedly) and Morgan slamming the leader in jail? Zakharov? God knows, is he a baddie or a goodie?

BTW is it possible for defeated factions to resurrect themselves? I've seen it once in Civ II in about five hundred games and never in SMAC...what are the odds?

The defeated faction can escape with and escape pod and restart IF the option is selected. I think this is intended mainly for multiplayer games so that everyone can keep playing even if a human player is wiped out early on. The defeated player reappears somewhere else at random with a colony pod and assorted gear.

That's a cool idea about diff. factions dealing with defeated differently.

Do you remember that 'Mork n Mindy' episode with the cameo by Raquel Welch where Raquel is the leader of the space Amazonians and their torture was to seduce (sic) their enemies! Yep, I was hoping that's how Deidre would take care of her captives.

I concur. Deirdre wouldn't torture anyone, nor would Lal.

Deirdre would assign them to a farm to tend the vegetables.

Lal would send them to reform school.

Morgan would probably find some more profitable way to deal with a defeated foe such as assimilating their talents in his datalinks manager (DLM).

Zakharov would probably conduct some heartless experiment to determine what makes them tick.

Yes, Santiago would kill them quick, after they were beaten to a pulp in the deathmatch boxing ring.

Yang would send them to 1984's room 101: total intimidation, followed by complete indoctrination as a propaganda tool, then if they were of no further value they'd receive an unexpected laser shot to the head.

Miriam? Depends which Miriam: the thoughtful, considerate, loyal Miriam of the prelude story; or the touchy, finger on the trigger Miriam of the game. If the former, she'd endeavor to convert the captured leader to her cause by appealing to them to repent, or if they refused, would assign them some menial chore as a lesson in humility until they did repent.

In the darker world of the game, Miriam would either pray for their souls as she had them executed; or would convert them to zealots in her cause, by Mind Correction if necessary when that technology became available. (MC would be Miriam's refined adaptation of Nerve Stapling, justified as correcting an immoral lesion in case of lesser offences, or as exorcism for the more seriously aberrant).
