Topic: Any way to turn off the CD check when starting game?

posted 03-19-99 02:04 PM ET Just wondering if you can edit the centuari.ini file or the alpha.txt file to turn off the ever so annoying CD check at the start of the game. Like many, I have done a complete install and therefor don't require the CD to play.
Anyway, just wondering if there is a way to do this. With the weekend coming up, I only plan to see the CD message once anyway but it would be nice to get rid of it.
Thanks.

Simple, just leave the CD in the drive. You mean you still use your PC for anything else? I can't imagine that.

The CD check isn't in the american version. I have heard that some people have downloaded a US terran.exe and used it with succes. The patch will discover the cheat however, so you have to upgrade with your own terran.exe . I am posting this becourse I *hate* having the cd in the drive in spite of a complete install myself...

Rong: I try not to ever leave a CD in the tray if I don't have to. It annoys when my system boots or I go into Explorer and have to wait for the blasted CD to spin up.
Thue: I do have the American version. Perhaps it's the non-american versions that don't have the check?

It depends on the drive I guess. My Panasonic is pretty quiet. It won't spin unless I tell it too.

First, don't you guys think it was a lame oversight to leave that check in the first place? Anyway...
I use the CD to play music during SMAC--hard to believe I wouldn't want to focus on the SMAC sounds, but they come out anyway, so I don't lose anything.
So let's answer this question already!
