I don't know if anyone else has had this problem but my Govenor is building a SP and the base gets attacked, so it switches to build a defender. Nevermind that the next base with extra defenders could quick send one over, never mind the game has diplomacy and I could've gotten a truce, nevermind I spent 20 years building something. Also the Governor switched to a Transport Foil when another faction built the same SP I was working on.
Yes, I know I don't have to use the Gov's. And to be fair both of these happened the same (and only) game that it locked up so maybe something else is going on. Theoretically 3.0 will be ready 3-19??? Will it have the ability to tell you when a SP is being stopped (not just started)? Well, any idea what Version 4.0 will have?

Did you try switching it right back? I once accidentally clicked the wrong button and changed production to a rover or something -- after spending well over 20 turns and 100 minerals on a secret project. I had already left the base view and only caught it when I did an overall production check with the F4 key at the end of the turn.

Point is, I went back to the base view and switched *back* to the SP -- and it picked up right where I had left off.

I'm not sure if this would work if you actually *completed* the unit, though.

I agree with you that it's annoying not to even be notified. Maybe the governor should have to ask your permission to stop working on an SP?
