Okay, they took colonists with them, they took plants with them, but did they take animals with them? And were these animals in suspended animation or what?

Or are they all vegetarians, except for the occaision braised mindworm?

I type too fast. That should be "occaisional braised mindworm". BTW here's the recipe.

Braised Mindworm

Preheat nano-oven to 39C

First, catch some mindworms. Allow three mindworms per person. Make a braising sauce of Fungus wine, mindworm blood, monsoon berries, and oregano. Put it aside. Saute some shallot, onion and celery. Put this to one side also.

Now take your mindworms and slice them open down the middle. Remove the "sweetbreads" leaving only the succulent mindworm flesh and brain. You may, if you wish, saute the sweetbreads with the onion mixture.

Now place the mindworms in a large hot braising pan. Sear them until brown. Add the braising sauce and cook in a nano-oven for an hour. Serve with whipped cream.

ROFL!!!!

I have only this to say. EWWWWWW! Yuck...bleach!

I mean really shallots and oregano and whipped cream???? Surely you meant maraschino cherries, oregano, and 'Cool Whip' (TM). Right?

Cool-Whip(TM) is an acceptable substitute.

I hear that mindworms are really quite delicious. Just like chicken but with a slightly more frog-like taste.

Curried Mindworm with Rice (a specialty of Brother Lal)

You will need:

1 pound basmati rice
8 mindworms (fresh)
1 stick butter (or ghee or oil, as preferred)
4 bananas (ripe)
1 shallot
1 onion
1 pound of good quality tofu, in chunks
1 pint soy milk
Madras curry powder to taste

Cook the rice and let steam. Saute the mindworms in the butter with the onion and shallot. When browned, reduce heat and add the curry powder and soy milk. Then add the tofu and sliced bananas and cook two minutes more. Serve over the rice with dollops of whipped cream or non-dairy whipped topping.

A meal fit for a faction leader!
