Hi all. After reading through the "You know you're old when..." thread about people discussing their old favorites, I realized that nobody mentioned any of the old Koei games. Titles like Nobunaga's Ambition, Romance of the 3 Kingdoms, and Ghengis Kahn bring back memories of many sleepless nights for me. Most of these I played on the old NES system, though I have managed to find a few for the PC. Though these games didn't have the depth some of the other titles mentioned, they sure were fun to play. Anyway, just wondering if anyone else like the old Koei games like I did. Silt

I have Aerobiz Supersonic and Uncharted Waters: New Horizons. They are both great games. |

I have multiple versions of ROTK, Gangis Khan, and Napoleon. Havn't seen any updates for a while. Maybe it's time to nicer up the graphics, improve the tactical combat and diplomacy options.Hmmm, Braveheart, and DaiSho comes to mind... George |

yeah they made some great games. I especially liked Three Kingdoms II. Ghenghis Khan II was good also. I got Three Kingdoms 4 but is was a complete disappointment. The combat model favored the defender so that attacking wasn't possible. That made the game really boring. Kind if hard to conquer china when your horses take a year or two to cut through some stupid door. While there were four types of fire it just wasn't as good as the real game. I've tried to find Three Kingdoms III (for emulator) but no one has it, even though they say they do. Wow 4 was a waste of money. That is what got me fed up with them. I still play 2 though, it is a master piece, right up there with Starcraft and civnet (sorry I just have the SMAC demo, can't comment on it). |

Koie games where (are?) the best! I have played many, many hours of ROTK I & II. My personal favorite is PTO! What a great WWII simulation! Nothing like hiding your last two carriers from the enemies scout planes and then launching a suprise torpedo run.......so cool |

I was (am) a huge Koei fan... loved Genghis Khan and all the Three Kingdoms and both of the Uncharted Waters. It was those games that made me a history nut. |

I tried Nobunaga's Ambition once upon a time, thought it held great promise, but having disasters practically every turn really pissed me off. Thought Romances of the Three Kingdoms IV looked promising but didn't see any reviews. If you can review that game then please email me your comments, I'd love to read them. |

I loved Romance of the 3 Kingdoms, Winning Post and PTO II. I used to play them on my old Saturn. Does anybody know where I can locate a copy of PTO II for Windows? I'll buy a used or new copy. |

A couple (4?) years back, they released a game set in Ireland, called Balor of the Evil Eye. Kind of like "Finn Mac Cuhaill's Ambition" if you will, with some interesting new tactical combat options (Bards and Druids throwing spells around) but otherwise a KOEI game in the same vane as the others -unite the island, recruit heros to lead your armies (X troops allowed per hero), lots of familiar rules. That's the latest thing I remember from them, I still have it on my PC, but it's a DOS game not WIN95. Maybe they had trouble gearing up to the new standards? |

I am a HUGE fan of Koei mostly because of one game and that was PTO. PTO was one of my favorite games of all time, I first purchased it on the SNES and this was before I even had a PC. I had spent hours and hours playing PTO and had fun every time I played it. Me and a friend of mine used to play it all night long until sunrise when we would have to stop. I purchased PTO II the day it came out and played it a whole lot, was even better than the first. Now after selling my SNES years ago, I now have PTO 2 on the PC and its the best one yet. Still there is not a Pacific Wargame out there better than it. |

Koei still exists, they just don't market games in the US anymore. Romance of The Three Kingdoms 6 is out, in chinese at least. It sounds great from my roomate's descriptions, but I just can't get over that whole 'I can't read chinese' hurdle. As far as I know lack of sales forced them to abandon english speaking markets. |
