I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same speed problems I am. I have a K6-2 300 and 128 meg of ram, I'm running 640x800 with low res graphics, I defrag my hard drive regularly, but SMAC still grinds nearly to a halt by 2160 or so. I've enabled every option to speed the game up, but some turns still move slower than diseased livestock. Am I cursed or what? I'm wondering if SMAC runs anywhere near the speed CivII did when it came out?

I have the same CPU and amount of RAM, under default options (standard graphics etc.) it works like a charm. Towards the end (2350) it crashes a little but that's mainly because of sound (damn SB Live).Which size of map are you playing on? I found huge maps to be substantially slower than standard maps. This may sound stupid but how are other programs running, like netscape? Could be some part of your hardware or OS is not optimized. BTW, this is better posted to the support and troubleshooting forum. |

Come to think of it I have noticed my AC game running slower after I installed the 2.0 patch. Btw, P2-266, 64 meg SDRAM, 4 meg vid, etc. I don't know if it's b/c it's a notebook running at 800x600 SVGA. No other apps running. I thought it's slowing down because the computer is using more resources [to play at Transcend level], but the same 5.7 sec delay in turn and .4 sec delay in moving units from square to square occurs even at Citizen level. <shrugs> I just might reinstall to clock AC in version 1.0.
