Yes, I noticed this for the first time yesterday. Had an air superiority interceptor automatically go up and fight a penetrator during the comp player's turn. It mysteriously lost! This happened more than once, and after the first time I took care to ensure that their values were matched:
13-1-(x)*3 Quantum Penetrator
vs.
<13>-1-(x)*3 Quantum InterceptorBoth were at full strength.
Morale for both was in the range Veteren to Elite, but with (presumably) 13 to 1 straight-on odds in my favor before modifiers, morale difference should have been negligible. I verified this during my turn by attacking another identical full strength enemy Penetrator with another full strength Interceptor and of course blew him away, no sweat.
What's up? I'm not considering this a bug yet, as I may be missing something. It almost seems as if, because it's not my turn, I'm considered the 'defender', while the 'attacker', who can't possibly be configured for air superiority and bomb at the same time, apparently 'bombed' me mid air with their attack factor. Since the enemy is not setup for air superiority their 13 to 1 odds advantage was severely modified downward such that they lost half their strength before my Interceptor died. That's my conjecture, anyhow.
I can't believe this hasn't been covered before...
