So, I'm sitting here at work reading a few post (since actually playing AC at work would be too obvious). And a thought occurs to me...what about economic warfare. There's a facet that's missing from this game. Oh sure, staple a few nerves, use a little gas, bust some planet and everyone declares sactions against you. But how about some good old fashioned tarriffs (sp?). Maybe certain societies produce different goods and these goods have a different value depending on how the global society develops.Does anyone have suggestions for other types of warfare (non-troop based) ? A little propoganda (sp?) to lower enemeny morale.

Propoganda already exists. Probe teams may incite drone riots. And bribing enemy cities and units seems like economic warfare to me. If you don't want to trade with someone, just declare war. |

Inciting drone riots doesn't affect troop morale though. Is it possible for a city defect to another faction due to drone riots ? I would have like to have seen a little more middle ground between trade and war. There used to be a game for the N8 (Nintendo 8-bit) called Nunbanga's (sp?) Ambition. One of the things that the game allowed you to to was to train your troops to improve their fighting ability. Another option was to improve the troops equipment. There were many levels for training and equipment, so it was possible to have some very well trained, poorly equipped troops take out some not so well trained, better equipped troops. SMAC has a nice degree of breadth, but I would have liked to have seen a little more depth. Don't get me wrong I think that this is a very good game, but there's always room for improvement. Yep, I _once_ had a city defect after two turns of drone riot. But never again! ;-) |

Norabunga's ambition was an ok game but was nothing compared to Romance of the Three Kingdoms II, for snes and genesis. It is made by the same company and is just plain better. If you can find it you need to get it. I got R3K4 for PC but it wasn't any good, defense was too strong making attacks impossible. They also made a revolutionary war game for genesis that you would probably like. Morale, propaganda and training are very important. You could probably get some of these games for an emulator, just search around for one. |
