In my current game my planes (chaos interceptors) regulary head towards my sea carriers (fusion crusier transport) when placed on alert. If they reach the ship they then return to base.

If planes are on air defense they try to attack targets outside of their one-way range.

Planes on alert sometimes go to a different airbase after attacking (instead of returning to the base they came from)
