First, I am disappointed in the diplomacy.
The Spartans canceled a truce and I had
no way of retaliting that did not have a
negative effect on my reputation! Hey, THEY
broke the treaty -- that should count for
something!

Second, why is it I have to click OK in so
many dialogs? You don't have to select "Yes"
in Windows and then click on Okay -- there is
just one button!

I've said this before and I'll say it again: I don't think a strategy game's diplomacy can EVER be too complex. The enhanced (as opposed to Civ II) diplomacy is certainly one of the cooler parts of SMAC, but it can certainly stand to be a layer or two deeper. I'm not sure that a patch can address game engine changes, though.

Something else just occurred to me. (i kinda hope the firaxis crew gets a chance to look at this)

A lot of people have been talking about how ATTEMPTED use of Planet Busters should be an atrocity *as well as* the SUCCESSFUL use thereof. I agree.

As is stands now, if your defense satellites knock down a nuke, the aggressor nation is not viewed as having committed an atrocity.

The BIG THING that should be included in a patch:

Allow human players to know the social engineering values for the other factions. Currently only the AI players do, which doesn't make any sense. It also makes perfect sense that every player in contact with anothe player would know their social engineering values.

Other problems:

-I agree with other posters that telling which units are artillery is a problem.

-The breakdown of the datalinks makes it hard to find certain things in there. I eventually did it by going through the "help" menu on certain things I wanted to look up. Perhaps a centralized index would be in order.

-The main thing the game manual is missing is an index. This is not a very productive whine however, because it's too late to do anything about the manual. This is *quite* annoying however when you're trying to find something in the manual.

Well, one could make an errata addendum, or a file with the index. One that was foldable (sp?) to be kept next to and inside the back cover. But that is only possible for the person who has THE file that went to print. :| (Test of faces : | ) But I look forward to an index myself. :p (another test.)

Regarding the original post, one of the "Advanced Preferences" is "Radio Buttons Select with Single Click". Turning this on should solve your second complaint.
