whenever I play the game with a Huge or Large map I experience a little bit of a lag, and that's probably from my 2mb video card and 32mb of ram. I'm wondering if anyone's played the game with the low-res images because I'm thinking about it and won't even try it until i get some sort of feedback. I guess that's kinda stupid but to get the hi-res back i'd probably have to re-install (i have no clue if i do or not so don't kill me for my mistake)

I have the same type of hardware for my computer and use the low-res graphics. It works great and I have not encountered any lag except when I build a project 2 seconds into the project it stop for abt. 3 seconds and then continues. I also think that you can retreive the High Res graphics without reinstalling. In short I highly recommend using the Low res graphics.

the higher res graphics, just look a little crisper on some machines(or so i've heard), so unless you running in 1024X768 im not sure if you will notice a difference

I switched to the low res. With a Pent 233 and Voodoo Banshee card, the hi-res graphics were painfully slow. At 800x600 graphics, I can't see any difference rendered on the map. But now my Needlejets fly across the screen, instead of sort of leisurly crawling their way from tile to tile.

This is what I did to simplify swapping the low and high res caviar. I copied the entire folder of low res to the hard drive. I made a new folder and titled it high res. I clicked on edit. then find. and selected *.cvr. these were the high res. I copied them to the high res folder. Then copied the low res from the folder to the game directory. This way I can swap easily without having to reinstall from CD.

Oh I forgot to say that I do prefer the low res because they move faster for me. I have a pentium 200mmx,Screamin 3d card, and full install to hard drive. So far I haven't had any bug problems.
