I remember, some years ago, when Civ 2 was released Brian Reynolds was all over the Comp-U-Serv Microprose Forum answering questions, giving design insights, clearing up confusion about the game interface and generally being helpful, supportive and a hell of a good guy.

Now, on their own site, the Firaxis team are conspicious by their absence.

Why is this ?

Folks like me, who have put well over 100 hours into the game, _and_ really want to like it, have real concerns and questions about both the strategies the game forces upon the player and the design decisions Firaxis has given us to work with.

I really don`t want to play 10,000 hours to test whether the AI Faction leaders responses to you ( which I find irrational, at the least ) are totally ramdom or have certain clearly defined " triggers". And there are, as you wade through the Message Boards dozens of questions like this from serious gamers that the design team alone can answer.

This kind of silence is not helpful and leads one to wonder about the depth and logic behind the game design.

I just saw him...
Well, he's around on both usenet and the forums, but doesn't always post (you'll have to ask him the whys of that).
I've had to specialize on the tech problems, since I've only so much time to devote. We're all here, and hell, email me if you've got direct questions. I can't promise to engage in some huge debate, but I'll make sure your voice is heard. [email protected]

Those of us who've been on these forums for awhile (especially from before the crash) know that Brian and the rest of the Firaxis team have been very active here. If he seems quiet lately, I'd say he's probably taking a well deserved vacation!

I doubt that But there's a time to read and a time to write.

Give the man a break! After the rush to finish SMAC, I'm surprised to see ANY of the Firaxians up and about at the moment.

Big, big, credit to you guys for sticking around to answer questions and write patches. It's greatly appreciated.

Blackjack

To be fair to Brian he has had
351 posting in comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.strategic
and
84 in alt.games.firaxis.alpha-centauri.

in the last few months, hardly what I called
a low profile :-). Some of us perfer usenet
to web-based forums, and my guess is the
readership of usenet groups is still higher
than company forums.
