Wow! For the first time in ... a couple dozen games ... I have actually had a long term peace with not one but two factions! Wow! I am literally in a state of shock. Deidre, Lal and I (CEO Bernard) have had peace since nearly the very beginning of Planetfall, and haven't slipped from our tri-state pact once. I am truly impressed. I think part of the problem was me all this time (imagine that *heavy sarcasm*). I was always asking my pact brother/sister in previous games to remove their troops so they wouldn't suprise attack me, which would inevitablly lead to war. I have been able to refuse giving free techs to my pact friends without ending our arrangement. I still think the computer overreacts a little, but I am happy to see that even I can have a little taste of peace.

*IMPORTANT TIP* When voting at an election always READ what the agenda is. I accidentally voted Deidre to Supreme Leader last night (I thought it was just a planetary governer election again). And I always play Iron Man (no saves) so I couldn't go back. Doh!

You asked your allies to do what?? Since the rules of a Pact say that you can both move your troops anywher eyou like within each other's borders, including sharing troop placements and stationing your troops in each other's cities, a demand to remove troops is tantamount to breaking the Pact!

This is a big change from how Civ2 worked, so it takes a little while to get used to, but it's a big improvement as allies never get in each other's way and are actually encouraged to help each other out.

I've got this picture of the NATO defence of western Europe during the cold war. One day, out of the blue, the troops of the European allies start pushing the US troops into the sea, shouting `get off our land, you unwelcome b******ds!'. I can well imagine the most Euro-sympathetic US government getting very peeved at that rough-house ingratitude, but that's approximately what you were doing, repeatedly. Treating the best of friends like that is quite a minus to reputation! No wonder other factions were either shunning you or commencing negotiation with belligerence!
