Having played several more games, I've come up with a POSSIBLE explanation of why my on-alert interceptors will fly around uselessly every turn, instead of obediently waiting for enemy aircraft. It seems whenever one of MY bombers attacks something, a unit, a base, etc, within it's fuel range, it flies out immediately to investigate. Thank goodness it realizes my bomber is the good guy, but it really shouldn't have gone there in the first place. I'd be curious to see if anyone else had any experience or thoughts with this. G

I've certainly had them fly around, mostly away from the front back towards the center of my territory, it seems. I stopped using the alert command so never picked up the pattern (if any). But if I just end the turn in a city, they _are_ on alert. If an enemy air unit comes within two squares to attack something, they respond. It's a pain in the rear having to hit [spacebar] for them each and every turn, but it works fine. I prefer a fixed slert command for them, however. It's cleaner. As it is a unit you fly back intending to let it repair is constantly dragged out to intercept (thus never repairing, if it survives at all) unless you explicitly put a hold on it (which takes clicking on the city and waiting for the slow city screen... since the air unit deactivates once it lands in this case). |
