Gamecenter.com ran the following tip -- what does it refer to?

"Tip: Create a single Skunkworks city to build a unit with new components as soon as they're researched. THis will defray the prototype cost for other cities and will keep you prepared if you suddenly have to change your production in the event of a war."

Skunkworks is a base facility. If you have
the Skunkworks at a base and build
prototype units there you don't have to
pay the +50% minerals cost for a new
unit

Skunkworks are not available in Citizen
or Specialist difficulty levels, because in
those games there is no prototyping
required (shouldn't this be in the datalinks
or manual?)

For more information, look in the datalinks
for 'skunkworks' under 'base facilities'
and 'prototypes' under 'general concepts'.

Hope this helps

A little background: skunkworks refers to the Lockheed Martin "Skunkworks" in Palmdale, California.
This was the secret design and fabrication facility that gave the U.S. uniquely successful aircraft such as the U-2 and SR-71.

I toyed with the idead in my last game. Basically, I built a skunworks and a few mining platforms in a sea base near the border between me(Morgan) and the Hive. The strategy seemed to work nicely, and the freaky weapons I turned out were put to good use (Hmm, drop probe hovertank, sub probe foil, lets test these....)

Historical note:
Skunkworks is the black projects design group at Lockheed, IIRC(Kelly Johnson headed it, again, IIRC). They did the U-2, SR-71, and F-117, among others. The connection with Area 51 is from the U-2 project, when a remote testing site for the U-2. Groom Lake in the Nellis Bombing and Gunnery Range was chose, and a base was built there.

Hmmm... I always thought that skunkworks was
some kind of torture involving reeeally bad smells to make your technitions turn out secret squirell stuff quicker.

S.M.A.C me upside the head,
