One really cool thing I just found out is that just because you add a carrier deck to a naval unit does not mean it is limited to carrying only aircraft. I had created an amphibious assault ship "Tarawa" class, named after the real U.S. ship. Tarawa Class Ship:
Chassie: Foil
Armanent: Troop Transport module
Armor: Synthmetal Armor (just to keep the cost down, provide a little protection and knock off the -50% non-combat penalty)
Reactor: Fusion Reactor
Special Ability 1: Carrier Deck
Special Ability 2: Repair Bay
This ship was able to carrier up to 4 units, ground and/or air. For a real assault ship, I put 2 helicopter units and 2 amphibious infantry units on board. Then off I went to attack, first I used a light battleship to soften up the bases, escort and protect the carrier mainly from planes. Then I launch the 2 copters(which were very powerful)clear out the base and land the marines. If any of my marine infantry received damage I could go back to the Tarawa and repair quick because of the repair bay. I took over 5 university bases like this.
Unfortunately, my copters did not have air superiority ability so I was afraid of planes because I only had the battleship to just defend against them because it had AAA.
To have a ship with Deep Radar nearby is really helpful when using a carrier type ship because you can see far and once you see the enemy you can launch the planes. Of course you can always put deep radar on the carrier, but I wanted the repair bay instead for mine.
Wait a minute! This is getting too long so I will end it here
