SMAC seems to be the first game where the auto governors in the cities actually seem to have half a brain, minimising micro management in the later stages of the game.

Just one question... Can you give them instructions NOT to build certain stuff (e.g. FUNGICIDAL FORMERS!) My land are already overdeveloped and still I'm getting these pumped out all the time! (This is when I direct them to BUILD, since this is the only one where they really seem to build facilities aimed at growth and infrastructure development (and Secret Projects)

BTW, can you get your military units available, to be automatically replaced by modern units as they become available, (so you don't have to make them obsolete, or retire them all the time)

Other than the above, this must be the best game I've played in years (it does takes a bit of time getting into it though)

Thanx Firaxis
Abe

Abe - the answer to your first question is no. Click on the down arrow next to the gov button and see if that may be of some help but giving the specifics currently isn't possible (may that be changeable).

The answer to your second question is yes. When it is time to upgrade your units (new armor, wpn, or ability) click on your existing units in the build list beneath the workshop window and install the new component. The description below the unit should say something like 'new unit based on existing design'. Also you should have noticed that all your existing units and any units currently under construction are upgraded with a new powerplant as soon as you research it. My reccomendation is not to upgrade your units until you obtain 2 new technologies unless you are getting you butt stomped.

Actually I'm pretty sure the answer to his first question is yes -- the list you get when you click on the arrow next to the word "Governor" specifically lets you turn off formers.

Now if you're saying you don't want a particular kind of former built, but do want others built, there isn't that level of control.
