I'm LATE in a Librarian level game, playing as the Peacekeepers. I've got a hardcore island with about 12 MASSIVE cities, all terrain is fully terraformed and I've got about a billion resources and can pump out military units like there's no tomorrow. There are 5 other factions left in the game, Gaians, UoP, Hive, Believers, Morgans. Gaians, Believers, and Morgans are about at the same level of power, just below me and the UoP and Hive are struggling. I originally had a very long term pact with the Gaians and UoP and Morgans, but Gaians and Morgans both went spastic on me and cancelled the Pact and declared vendetta for no reason. I've managed to maintain my Pact with the UoP, but they aren't helping me at all... I'm way ahead of them in tech and they have lost all their land bases, so they're pretty much useless. So the basic situation is I'm at war with 4 other factions all of whom are on the VERGE of getting planet busters. I've got probe teams going like crazy to keep their prototypes from getting finished (infiltrated all datalinks, so I can see where they are building them).

I was planning on trying to get the attrocity ban lifted, then nuking each faction out of existence... but recently I've been under hardcore attack from the Planet. Yeah yeah, I haven't been too nice to the place, with about 6 boreholes and tons of mineral producing cities... but I've built every eco-friendly building in existence and my Planet rating is +4. Literally EVERY TURN one of my cities is attacked by worms and locusts. I'm not having any problems holding them off, but killing them, repairing the fungus, and fending off attacks from other factions has me so busy defensively that I'm not able to build up any forces to attack everyone else with.

Diplomatic Victory is out of the question, because everyone hates me... Economic victory won't work because I've been forced to hurry a lot of production to keep myself secure... Conquest looks vitrually impossible at this point...

Oh, and Global Warming is about to start. Is there any way to prevent this once you get the message that scientists predict it?

I figure the best I can do now is hold on defensively and wait for a Transcendence victory, which I think I can do. If the sea level rises though, that would ruin a lot of my cities (ive got pressure domes, but losing the terraforming would be a HUGE loss).

Any suggestions for a frustrated and besieged player? I'm almost considering abandoning the game, because it feels too much like WORK to keep playing rather than fun.

The most advice i can offer, as pathetic as that may be, is to use a former to walk around the island ur on, looking for that 'endangered' sign on the terrain window, and just raise those squares...

it may not help the war against the other factions, but itll protect ur terrafroming

Re. your planet rating of +4. This is merely a weighting in your favour overall - at the city level there may be some centres causing Eco-damage (imagine how bad it would be without that favourable eco rating!?). It might only be small but planet reacts angrily to such damage. It will attack those cities relentlessly. Just check each city for Eco-damage and try to amend that. Soothe the planet then bomb the crap out of your human opponents!
Global warming is a different challenge. Are you the planetary governor? Do you have enough votes to 'Launch Solar Shade'? Check out this option and see if it's possible.
Good luck.

Won't it be nice to have eco-damage shown in the Base Operation Status List? Better yet, should have a evionmentally sensitive governor option so the governor will try to maintain the ED rating at 0, instead of having to do it at everybase everytime there is a population increase.

Tin,

The only additional advice I can give you on the eco side is based on whether or not you are covering every square as a city square. I have developed those non-covered squares and taken their resources with crawlers. You don't get as much this way, but you also don't make the planet want to mind worm you to death either. In addition, I wouldn't be anxious to drop PB's as you'll have worms coming from everywhere if you do this.

Diplomatically, everyone is going to want to get you if you are way out front or if you are bullying them. Try giving a few gifts and see if they change. I have noticed that factions will even declare Vendetta if you are elected governor over them or if you hurry a secret project with energy credits to beat them to the punch. Sometimes it doesn't take much to piss off a bunch of people. Kinda like the real world?

Good luck.

You might consider planting forests in undeveloped or underproducing squares to reduce your eco-damage. Preserves can also reduce eco-damage, but they are pretty expensive.

As for your military woes, I would strongly recommend building several Deep radar helicopters and equip them with your best offensive weaponry (armor is unnecessary). Place one in each of your coastal cities, and patrol the surrounding waters for any enemy invasion fleets. This is guaranteed to stop ANY naval attack; the only thing you need to worry about are cruise missiles, but there's really not much you can do about that. Just wait it out and get that Transcend victory. Good luck!
