I don't want the computer to automatically center on the "current" unit -- But I can't find where to turn of the "center on current unit" preference -- it's NOT in Map Preferences...

Try in Advanced preferences... Or scan everything but Audio/Visual because I know it is definitely *not* there. |

In either Preferences or Advanced Preferences menu there is an option for 'Centre on Unit with Orders', turn this off to save centering on units that have active orders. There isnt a way to avoid centering on active units that have no preset orders. |

I did uncheck the "center on active units" button in the advanced pref. menu, but it didn't help the problem I'm having. My problem is that I'll be working on a particular city, perhaps trying to get a bunch of units activated, or doing some terraforming, and everytime I click OK, it centers on some faraway active unit and I have to find the city I was at--which can be a pain if you have more than a few cities. This problem drives me up the wall. Someone suggested that I do my "city editing" after all my active units' orders are done, that way it won't jump to actives, but therein lies another problem. If I don't tinker with my cities when I have the chance, after I've ordered my last active unit to do something, the game just automatically ends my turn. This is something I don't understand. When my turn is over I should manually have to click the "turn over" button (or whatever it says.) I don't like the fact that the game assumes you are done. There have been lots of times that I wanted to go to a city and activate a unit to kill some mindworms, for instance, and my chance is lost and I get attacked. So what's the fix? Is there a fix? hmmm. |

to Shewolf: "Center on Active Units" is exactly the thing I'm trying to disable, but it's not in MY Advanced Preferences menu... Are you sure it's in yours? Are you sure you're not talking about the "Center on units with orders" button? |

Why don't you just "Activate" one of the defenders in the city you are working on. At least that way when it centers it will do so at the spot you want. you can always put that unit back to sleep when you are done. |

Oh, one more thing, there is an option to require you to manually end each turn. I think it is labeled as "Pause at end of turn". I prefer that option as well. Whenever you automate tasks it is easy to miss opportunities for city maintenance without it. |

Well, I don't know how to solve your first problem, but the second one is easy. I was having the computer automatically end my turn too, and it bugged the hell out of me, for the obvious reasons. But there's a setting for it in "automation preferences" I think, or else in one of the others, although NOT of course in the audio/visual one. It saves a lot of grief. |

dodger: now that I think about it, I'm not sure what the button actually says. You could be right. I'm at work and can't check it. fiben/stryfe: thanks, I will look for that option in the menu. Doh! Why didn't I think of that? |
