posted 02-18-99 10:44 AM ET I don't know if this has been covered already, but the thing that CIV 2 had that SMAC is sorely lacking is a "GOAL" button in the 'pick a tech' screen.
The tech tree is complicated and the online/manual help isn't particularly helpful when you want to say "research the tech that gieves my bore holes".
Does anybody else miss this feature?

Me! Me! Bring back the goals ... I still use them in Civ II for the early years. Now of course, in SMAC if usually play with Blind research, but I would like the goals for when I don't and need to know the tech tree backwards. Eg. I want to aim to lift all my production limits as quickly as possible ... what should I research at the start of the game? Explore stuff for blind, but for directed? What's the best way to go? BRING BACK MY GOAL BUTTON!

While there isn't a Goal button, right-clicking on the selection box will drag up the datalinks box on that advance and you can run through the tech tree with it.
That and that nice poster they have can help you find your goal.
