Hmm, some of it needs a bit of polishing if you ask me. I mean, "Contraception" as a wonder? "Nets" as an improvement? "Stirups" as a tech?I mean, it all makes sense, but I think that after being so used to CIV & CIVII, and the great job done by Sid and Brian, when they introduce new ideas, and scrap the old ones, it's gonna take some getting used to. To me, some of those techs, improvements, etc sound a little odd. It's really just wait-and-see though. Wait to get the demo, and see if they have lived up to the extremely high expectations Civ fans have for the franchise. Until we have the demo in our little hands, it is pure guesswork, based on all too little information. Another MINOR point - this forum is provided by Firaxis for information about the game, SMAC. This should REALLY be on the Non-SMAC related forum. Cos last I checked, this has nothing at all to do with SMAC... |

You can always stretch the point and say that this is competition to SMAC. And to understand how great a game is, you have to compare it to another game with a lot of hype around it. |

Stretch anything that far, and it'd be likely to break. ;-) |

Look in the CTP Forum u don't think they are talking about SMAC.All of us gamers are in a state of limbo. We get SMAC first on the shelves we say it's the best. What if CTP came out first what would u have said then. And all of us do support SID and BRIAN on there new company and all.But am I always going to throw $50-$60 bucks to support a game which I might not like or find to be a all time low in strategy gaming. I don't think so... |

> "Stirups" as a tech? This seems reasonable to me. Stirups changed the face of warfare, allowing people to fight from horseback. Up until stirups, people rode to war and then got down on foot to fight, or used chariots. Horsemen/knights etc. relied on stirups to maintain balance in the saddle while fighting.James |

Undertaker, you really need to stop pressing your anti-SMAC pro-CTP ideas, I think we get the picture, already. For me, atleast, I don't care which one comes out first. I care which one is FUN. I think SMAC is fun, if CTP is fun too then I'll get them both. And you speak about throwing money at a game you don't like, y'know, you can tell alot better if you try before you buy. Instead of registering CTP right away expecting all the hype to be true. Just my opinion... As for the actual topic of this thread- I think alot of the new wonders look silly. Really, contraception? What's that going to do? "Doubles Happiness, Halves Population Growth"? "Prevents 'STD' Random Event"? But heck, maybe they'll work so well I won't care about the names. It needs to be seen first. ...It WOULD be kind've interesting playing a game with Canadians and Jamicans being dominant superpowers |

Look, I was saying SMAC would kick Civ:CTP's butt long before either game came out. Two words: Sid Brian'Nuff said. CIV:CTP may very well be a good game. I may very well like it. But I won't love it as much as I do SMAC. That's a personal thing, related to the fact that I have been following this game for over a year, and heaps of other factors. And you love CTP more than SMAC. Fine with me. But I don't try and convert you, and one gets a little sick of your preaching to us. And as I said, this particular forum is about SMAC. This belongs in the non-SMAC related forum. I didn't say you can't post it anywhere on the site. Yeesh... And as for Stirrups - well, I don't see armor on there, and heaven knows that revolutionised warfore more than stirrups. And my whole point was that it sounded funny, not that it was stupid. It just doesn't feel right. Call it "Mobile Warfare" or something, my point is that a tech called stirrups sounds stupid to ME. You may think it sounds fine, and opinions are like butts, everyone has one, and no two are the same... |

A fascist unit? And this wants to be published in Germany as well. I remember how they reacted to Wolfenstein, not good. What I do like is the increase in the number of tile improvements, 'cause I always thought Civ was a bit lacking in that department. Looks quite good, might give me something to do when I'm frustrated with SMAC. |

I hope they have the Technology called "Beanie Babies". I mean really, if you think about it, they want everything else in the game, useless or not, i am sure they have got to have this. it can increase the happyness of your factio.. err tribe, and lower your income by several hundred dollars/gold/whatever. |

Yeh, it's pretty funny about the contraception wonder... Are these guys from Mars or what? The Trojan Man? Too funny for words. I mean, what next, rock music tech for The Stones World Tour wonder |

Looks like they went out of there way to avoid techs previously used -- kinda strange, since CivII's techs were generally, like, kinda the important ones...It's also strange how different, well, everything is. For something that wishes to claim "successorship", it looks like they changed too much. Hardly looks like Civilzation anymore. And I do have to agree with all comments about "Contraception". |

I don't have a problem with nets, personally, they're just like kelp farms. Still, I think kelp farms are cooler... they naturally grow and expand. Not that the ancients lived on Chiron or had that technology... Getting back to topic, I think they could have come up with something more creative than "big nets" though.Now... what the devil is the infrastructure improvement? Is that like capatlization or stockpile energy? Or housing in MOO II? I agree with those before- I like "feudalism" or "chivalry" better than stirrup. I wonder what the city clock does- increase agricultural production because lunch breaks are kept more stiffly now? I think that they have railroad/industrial revolution backwards. The railroad made the industrial revolution possible, hence why railroad came before industrialization in Civ. The "War Walker" unit- fans of mech warrior aside, any person in a tank knows that they want to be "hull-down," or have almost everything obscured from view behind a hill/fortification except the turret. A War Walker would be easily seen and have a leg blown off, brining this idea for war to a crashing close. Food tanks as a tile improvement- I see this more as done in the city, not actually out in the country with hicks with their own industrial park food vats. Plasmatica, I've complained about them before- future wars will not be faught by female cyborgs with swords, as cool as it sounds to the millions of porn freaks out there. The rest of us would like something slightly more realistic for a Civ type game. That's just my rants. I have rants about SMAC too, CTPers, just a few things I noticed. |
