posted 02-17-99 11:41 AM ET Has anyone else noticed the similarites between many of the sci-fi elements of the story and Orson Scott Card's Ender books? Examples: the idea of an entirely symbiotic planet with life cycles and such. People living in(becoming part of) a semi-living computer network. I know lots of ideas are repeated in sci-fi, I just thought this was interesting.

On page 228 of the manual they say:
"Much inspiration for Alpha Centauri came from reading classic works of science fiction."
So ... yes, they spent time reading lots of SF books and you will find elements from MANY of them!
Including those by Frank Herbert and Kim Stanly Robinson.
