Why is it that the strat guide is what should be contained in the manual. All the techs are listed. All the buildings are listed. All the unit upgrades are listed.

I must say that the layout is very good. But other than the first ~10 pages are devoted to general strat information. Thats it. The rest of the book is what should have been in the manual.

Where are the suggestions for Special unit types. Where are the suggestions for fighting different factions. Where are the suggestions for Unique units. Where are the different types of tactics. All the things one would expect from a strat guide techniques that were used in the 6 months of Play testing. The in house games that we heard all about.

What are the stories from multiperson games that Fraxis played. This is not a Strat guide. Its a continuation of the manual. >

I agree wholeheartedly. The only other thing the "strategy" guide is useful for is it is the only place (so far) where you can find an index for the manual.

Great game...but manual and strat guide leave much to be desired.

Other complaints about the manual:

- The screenshots are way to small;
- There is no explanation of certain aspects of the game (i.e. there are asterisks on resource table that have no explanation anywhere);
- No table of contents (see above).

I agree about the manual leaving something to be desired. For example, I've gone through the manual a couple of times looking for any information on nerve stapling. I know what it's effects are, but what is it? I'ld like to know. Anyone know what the heck nerve stapling is?

When a city riots it goes into civil disorder. When you nerve stapple you commit an atrocity (being really nasty) against the people in the city so that they wont riot in 10 turns or so. Its effective but other factions will probably use sanctions against you because its a treachery to the human rights. I think the sanctions means that there will be no commerce between you and any other country for a period of time.
Hoped it help, have a good day

I think Zekovian wants to know what it is. I.e. what the physicl act of nerve stapling is.

I agree with most of the above comments on the manual and strategy guide. I've strained my eyes looking through the manual trying to fond an explantion for the asterisks next to resources in the base screen. I've also noticed that the Base Operations Status screen sometimes places an exclamation point in parenthesis next to a base name. Can anyone explain what these mean?

I think Nerve Stapling means putting some kind of "anti-rebel" drug in the water supply.

Nerve Stapling blah blah blah...

I think of "nerve stapling" as implanting some kind of mind-control device. But that's just my idea. It could also be some kind of brainwashing...

Perhaps they should have worked it into the story somehow. "Zakharov's journal: My experiments require utmost physical precision, which I find difficult to maintain with the distractions aboard ship. So I have developed a technique to let the shipboard computer assume direct control of my movements... This technique is somewhat painful, but could prove useful in a wide range of situations."

I think nerve stapling is like getting all the nerves in your body shocked with some sort of energy wave. Making everything hurt like hell.

imagine getting your nutsac pulled back between your legs and up, and then having someone take a singularity staplegun and staple it to the back of your head.

Now tell me that wouldn't take the fight out of you.

I believe the exclamation points next to city names indicate cities currently in a Golden Age. I would like to know what the asterisks stand for.
