I beleive that writing scenarios for this game will be difficult. One of the many things that I like about Civ II, other than playing the original game, was installing the first modpack from McCart, and then the others like High Tech, moonpack, and stonehenge. All which gave a different flavor to the game. I admired those creators. Nothing was said about the modpacks. Little help was given in making them, except for a few short blurbs here and there. But 245mb later, I still find pleasure in finding, downloading, and playing them. They have made CivII fresh and apeealing long after I would have stopped playing the game. My problems with SMAC in these lines are that the game was initially touted for its extensibility. I haven't seen or heard much about that feature since. Only that in the "future", on one of the next patches, or incarnations, utilities will appear for writing and creating scenarios. I would like to see them now! I can't picture "starship trooper" or other of the man vs beast scenarios, beacuse there is no faction specific characters. You could make the "hive" into the beasts, but what ever that would make them unique would be common to everyone. I can't picture any "magic" or sword and scorcery" scenarios for the same reasons. You couldn't parse one type of magic, say white or black to anyone faction. Everyone would have it. Am I wrong or are the scenarios really only campaigns? I have heard that the Mars society plans a scenario on that subject. But that scenario couldn't be stretched into a Babylon 5 scenario, because no allowance has been made for anything other that "man vs man". Hopefully this post will get the attention of the fabulous BR that other posts have received and he will insert some changes into the game to take care of this perceived problem. |
