I have put units on alert in the hope that they would act like units sentried in Civ2, i.e. wake up when an enemy unit moves next to it. This does not seem to work, is it just me, or does alert status mean something else?

I can do the sentry action by hitting the "L" key. My units then wake up when a unit moves next to it... however, I also can't figure out this "sentry" thing... When I put Jets on sentry some stay in the base for awhile and then start to fly around randomly while others simply fly around as if they are on patrol... This is anoying mainly do the fact that since they're out flying around they are not protecting my helpless little formers like they should. I've had em fly right by a planet mindworm and not attack it, then the worm wastes the little former... Does it have something to do with how they are built??? Some are tactical (attack ground units) and some are interceptors (attack air units)... Stein |

Hint: Try the Shift-L "On Alert" Option. Use it with 'Copter units and watch the unit rush out, kill, and then return to base all in the same turn! They don't wait till the enemy is right next you your 'burg either... Enemy unit sighted is all that is needed! Had a shard copter kill a crusier transport loaded with spartan units heading for one of my bases. |

I have found that if you station an interceptor in a base, the interceptor will automatically attack any hostile unit that mounts an attack within the base's two-square zone. You don't have to issue any commands. |

Yes, ShiftL puts air units on sentry. but as noted above they dont always retrun to th ebase they started in, which is a pain. I've had bases be full one turn and thgen empty fore a few while packs of jets and locusts swarmed around the globe. Is there work-around? |
