I build a vehicle with a laser system and had it modified for heavy artillery ( which is bombardment). Later i had some fungus approach one of my undefended bases and only had time to move the vehicle in range to defend. Well the vehicle destroyed all the fungus but i wasn't expecting it to. This didnt make sense to me. In the online manual it states that bombardment cannot lower ground units below 50 % life. How then could i kill the fungus.
Even though it worked in my favor this was yet another confliction of how things are presented. How can one get accurate data concerning special attacks ?

Artillery has different effects on different units. All examples assume that your doing a long range bombardment.

Artillery attacking air - cannot do unless air unit grounded in a base, then counts as a ground unit

Artillery vs Human ground(non-Artillery) - may hurt target, cannot reduce below 50%.

Artillery vs Artillery or Navy - Artllery duel starts - Attack rating vs Attack rating. Armour has no effect. May result in death of one unit.

Artillery vs Native units (Mind Worms or Isles of the Deep) - really hurts them, but have never seen kill. Reason - native units are physically very weak, it's only their Psi powers that make them any threat at all.

Recommended tactic - bombard approaching worms, then attack them with a mobile unit - the damage makes it unlikely that your mobile unit will lose and you get the free credits from the planetpearls.

If you mean fungus (and not native units) you simply destroyed it, as you could a farm or mine or what have you. Bombard is great for pummeling stacks of units, but also great for destroying infastructure (or in this case, anti-infastructure).

So I can use artillery to remove fungus? Probably a lot quicker than using terreformers.
