Here I am playing a game when I get a message that sunspots have disrupted communications, I think nothing about it and then two turns later I deside to check out my quantum planet busters, I figured and had always heard that during sunspots NO communication was allowed so I figured that no one would notice except the Hive. Well I used my planet buster, took out 3 hive cities and everyone declared vendetta against me. How is this possible? First how did they know about the act in the first place and second how were they able to convey to me that we were at war?

I used a planet buster. How could anyone not notice one of those things going off?

I'm sure it's just a programming error.
Firaxis should fix that in a patch or two huh...

Deeply concerned

It's not a programming error, but rather, a feature.

During sunspots you can get away with minor atrocities such as nerve stapeling, obliderating and nerve gas. And you can declare war and other players will be helpless to call in their brother/sister attack dogs/the council.

However, Planet-Busters are in a league of their own. And so, no matter what, you're going to get your butt fried for setting one off. Planet itself will get pissed and send some terribly evil waves of Mindworms, Isles and Locusts, you will be expelled from the Council AND most players will tend to declare war. It doesn't matter who you used it on, or when, Planet Busters just have this universial trait in them, that even during sunspots, people KNOW when they go off.

Besides, it's not a very good idea to use 'Busters, even if you repeal the charter, since Planet will kick you around for it.

It may be unrealistic, yeah, but being able to use dozens of 'Busters during a sunspot and getting away with it would turn SMAC into a game of "wait for the sunspot."

Thanks for the information. I had heard that during sunspots you could commit atrocities and get away. I had assumed this meant any but I am glad to see that it only means minor things.

A quantum planet buster makes a hole big enough to notice half way around the world. However, you won't know about nerve stapling inless someone actually notifies you about it, via the comlink.
