Hail,

Now that the game's actually out and presumably many people on the boards have finished it at least once, I wanted to thank Firaxis for the actual faction differences, and find out which ones were the most popular.

For myself, UoP simply cannot be beat. The bonuses balance my play style perfectly (it's hard to lose when your Graviton Deathspheres are attacking their Plasma Sentinels). What's more, the quotes from faction leaders just adds so much atmosphere to the game, it's hard not to wipe out some factions just because of the personality behind the quotes *grin*. Of course, Zakharov gets the best lines (although I'm still not quite sure where that one about exterminating the mindworms comes from).

Oh, yes; has anyone else explored the sound files directories? There's an interesting tidbit in the CPU comments.

Gah! Everyone loves the stinkin' Uop!! Ack, my capitalist visions!

I myself hate the UoP, because they oftentimes can fall prey to being contained. Whenever I meet up with those brainy suckers I tend to just contain their expansion, and beat them senseless if they don't cough up technology for me to use. And, if they're big, I'll just have myself a Probe Party

I myself, if anyone would inquire, am a Morganite. Mainly because with Free Market Morganites research quite fast (if not faster than the UoP) seeing as how the +3 economy lets them generate an extra energy point per square. And most of those points will be going towards research. Plus, when research reaches a high point, I can always lean back and divert that energy into money, or psych. In that manner I don't HAVE to pour all my attention into technology.

In my opinion, if you just pay attention to tech, you won't have much. Yeah sure, you can make a sooper-dooper deathsphere. But how many of those can you make while my "People's Republic" Nerve Gas Needlejets rain terror upon your valuable citizens? Hmm?

But, that is just my corporate opinion.

In my humble opinion- UoP ROCKS!!
Ehem you will find that in most games of this type research is hard to beat, survive the early game and you are set.

Sorry guys, but the UoP is NOT the best, but rather either the Peacekeepers or the Gaians are the best. The Peacekeepers get an extra happy citizen for every four, so you never have to worry about drone riots and its really easy for them to get a Golden Age, which greatly improves a city, plus, they can get cities of 9 and then 16, instead of 7 and 14 with a hab complex. This may not seem like much, but it takes a long long time before you get Habitation domes, so your cities will be 15% bigger then anyone elses, and 45% bigger then the Morgans once they max out in pop, which usually happens way before you ever discover habitation domes. Plus they get double votes in planetary council, so you are forsure going to become the planatary govener, which has many benefits.

The other best choice is the gaians. In my last multiplayer game, I had already captured! 2 mind worms when another player had just spotted his first. You can get Green econemy very early, and thus get 75% to capture mind worms, I have wipped out entire factions with just one mind worm capturing more mind worms and they capture more and so one. Plus, native mind worms will NOT! attack your own mind worms, so you can explore fungus patches with your mind worms and capture more and create huge armies. With the mind worms, its very easy to explore the land and get the bonus pods and using elses of the deep to explore the oceans. In my last game, with just one battle ship, (with the maritime center, +2 movment) I had captured about 20 elses of the deep in just under 10 turns. I ruled the seas! And if you ever get far behind in techs, just go probe happy on the UoP. Thats all I have to Say.

Hail,

I wasn't asking which faction is best, but which one people prefer. UoP may not be the "best" faction by min/maxing (too much RPGing...), but they are my favorite. If nothing else, Zakharov is my favorite faction leader, so of course I have to use his faction. There's just something off-putting about each of the others, and he seems to have the best sense of humor (As you see, it is not so damaged as they say).

Well, you havent played the game 'til you've played The Believers...my favorite. Mount some nerve gas pods on your impact speeders in the early game and you will be unstoppable. Heh, 50% added to your inherent 25% bonus to attack is HELL on those unbelievers Sure, my reputation was wicked but the other factions were too busy cowering to notice. The only thing I hate is the massive civilian casulties generated by nerve gas i.e... I hit The Hive when it was a 10 city...when I occupied it, it was a 3.

I like the Gaians. Sure it's all very nice they have those mindworm capturing ability, but with the Gaians, I find it easy to grab all the "green technology" (it goes well with Deidre's personality, in any case). Green technology are Weather Paradigm, Tree Farm, Hybrid Farm and so on. They allow me to build huge resources and hence, superior forces. In truth, factions like the survivalists and university have an edge over me, but I play for the long run (now with all that green technology resource boost, I'm getting one breakthrough every two turns!)
