Let me ask a question. When you're at work or school (actually NOT playing SMAC) do you:
a) Sketch out plans for custom units? (during meetings, lectures, etc.)
b) Plan production queues for all your bases?
c) Give play-by-play summaries of your most recent game to co-workers, classmates, etc?
d) Fantasize about psi combat against your professor or boss?
e) Calculate your attack bonus based on your current altitude?
f) Try to terraform your desk?
g) Ask your professor or boss for more minerals to complete your "Secret Project"?
h) Fantasize about nerve stapling students or coworkers?
If you answered yes to any 5 of the above, do yourself and society a favor and get back to your computer.

Old_Guy is right,
We no longer have to worry about the initial stages of SMAC Addiction (Types I through V). No, now we have to deal with Full Blown SMACA.
Will the world economy survive the imminent drop in worker productivity now that the game has been released?

I think we're witnessing the first flush of SMAC addiction in the forum. I assume everyone who typically contributes is playing the game, since all that shows up now are requests for help with specific problems, a few complaints from people who hated the game (and presumably aren't playing), or posts from people who are in the office.

Is the an altitude-related combat bonus??? Really? I completely missed that one! Tell me, please, what's the formula?
-My next vacation will be to Australia - a week before the release of Alpha Centauri II
