Laugh. I felt exactly the same thing. Of course, I'd much rather see the patch released right away than wait two weeks for it. Or two months. Or ... you get the idea.Thought I finally had my copy today though. Called Future Shop this morning, they said they had just got 24 copies in. Got there at noon, nothing. After about 20 minutes of searching, and one of the employees going through their computer, he decided they probably put TOMORROW's shipment into the computer early, and the guy on the phone didn't bother to check the shelves. 19 more hours...

The reason for the patch is we continued to play/tweak/fix things after it went to duplication (around 1 1/2 months or so). We would have put the new executable in the box if we could, but the production lead time wouldn't allow. Voila...the patch.jkm firaxis games |

Oh, I wasn't complaining. Let's face it, patches are a fact of life these days, regardless of what ideally might be the case. I just think it's nice to see one so quick, so hopefully my first real game is as good as my last one, when I'm 113 and playing SMAC to remember the old days of gaming.

Doh. Knew I forgot something. I recall seeing somewhere you pointing people at the readme for the patch, to see what all was done. I can't seem to find it off the main buttons at the bottom. Thanks in advance.

grunthex: Ah, I could tell before I checked your profile that you're a fellow Calgarian. I had the exact same experience at that Future Shop yesterday evening.Regarding patches, I have a serious issue if the game needs to be patched because the out-of-box version has major problems and won't even run properly. This shows a serious lack of concern for gamers, and is just plain sloppy. However, in SMAC's case, where they patch to add features and tweak game balance, it's a good thing. |

I hope the patch eliminates the game crashes that I'm currently experiencing. I've been playing since yesterday and I've had 2 crashes. Both times, the program completely shut down. I haven't been able to determine if there is any specific pattern to these crashes. Fortunately, I've been able to reboot my computer and reload using the autosaved games without any problems. It just has been rather annoying. |

I know it is due out today but WHERE will I go to find it. The options at the bottom of the mail alphacentauri page are: demo, news, story, register, home, tech, features, faction/hq, gallery, Alpha HQ, and Forums. I see NOTHING about files, patches, etc... |

I agree with kidMD. These game crashes are driving me mad! It's getting to the point where'd i rather go watch TV than deal with the crashes this game experiences.. I have posted messages in the newsgroup and am awaiting an answer.. Apprently there are several people having crashes and no one seems to know what to do about it other than give advise that doesn't work about reinstalling, drfraging, scan disk..e ct... and I do have all current drivers. this games crashes more than Lords of Magic did when i first bought it! |

Lords of Magic never crashed on my current system. Alpha Centauri hasn't crashed on it either. However, many of my games would crash on my previous system. I could never figure out why since I'd replace memory and video cards. I ended up suspecting the cache on my motherboard but was never able to pin the problem down.I had to upgrade anyway. Hope you can take care of your problem soon so that you too can enjoy the game. |

Anyone experiencing random crashes please email me with a synopsis of what you're doing when it bites it, as much detail about your system as you can stand, and what you've explicitly tried already (no: I've tried everything). We'll get each and everyone of you running.jkm firaxis games |

I'll go out on a limb and say that about 75% of Win95/98/NT crashes are due to DirectX problems. If you haven't already, go download the latest drivers for your video card. Also check to see if you have DirectX 6.0 or DirectX 6.1. If you have 6.1 I'd try going back to 6.0. Hope that helps some of you. |

My computer keeps crashing too! Damned game! I can't believe how buggy it is! Everytime I start losing and finally get my butt kicked or someone else gets voted Supreme Leader, I kick my machine and it falls over and make a lot of clicking and clacking and rattling noises and then the game either locks up on me or reboots!!! Will the patch fix this??? Just kidding. hehe
